Bible Verses About Easter to Memorize
Easter is the hinge of the Christian faith. Paul said plainly that if Christ is not risen, our faith is vain — and then staked everything on the fact that He is risen indeed, seen by Peter, by the twelve, and by more than five hundred witnesses at once. The empty tomb is not a metaphor; it is the best-attested event in the New Testament.
That is why Easter verses are worth carrying in your memory all year, not just one Sunday in spring. "He is not here: for he is risen" answers the fear of death. "O death, where is thy sting?" answers grief at a graveside. "Begotten us again unto a lively hope" answers despair on an ordinary Tuesday.
These twelve KJV passages walk from the angel’s announcement through the doctrine of the resurrection to the difference it makes in your life. Learn them once and Easter morning will live in you every morning.

Each verse below is shown in the King James Version. Read it slowly, then use the note beneath it to see why it is worth carrying with you.
Matthew 28:5-6
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
The angel’s words at the empty tomb — "He is not here: for he is risen, as he said" — are the original Easter proclamation.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Paul’s summary of the gospel — Christ died, was buried, and rose again the third day according to the scriptures — is the creed every believer should know by heart.
Luke 24:6-7
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
The angels remind the women that Jesus predicted His own resurrection, proving Easter was a promise kept, not a surprise.
Romans 4:25
Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
One verse ties the cross and the empty tomb together: delivered for our offences, raised again for our justification.
1 Peter 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
The resurrection gives believers a "lively hope" — this verse turns Easter from history into daily encouragement.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
"O death, where is thy sting?" is the victory cry of Easter and one of the most comforting passages to have ready at a funeral.
Romans 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Believing that God raised Jesus from the dead is at the very center of saving faith, so this verse belongs in every memory.
Romans 6:9
Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
"Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more" — the resurrection was permanent, and so is the life He gives.
Revelation 1:18
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
The risen Jesus declares He is alive for evermore and holds the keys of hell and of death — pure courage in one verse.
John 20:29
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Jesus’ word to Thomas blesses everyone who has not seen and yet has believed — that is every Christian since.
Mark 16:6
And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
Mark’s brisk account of the angel’s announcement is short enough for a child to memorize for Easter Sunday.
John 11:25-26
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
"I am the resurrection, and the life" — Jesus does not merely perform resurrection; He is it, and faith in Him means never truly dying.

How to memorize these verses
The forty days of Lent make a natural memorization calendar: learn one Easter verse every three to four days and you will know all twelve by Resurrection Sunday. Group them in threes — the empty-tomb accounts (Matthew, Mark, Luke), the gospel core (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 4:25, Romans 10:9), and the victory verses — so each set reinforces the others. Saying "He is risen" passages aloud in the morning is an old and worthy habit. The Bible Memory App is free to start and will schedule the reviews so the verses are still fresh next Easter.
The Bible Memory App turns that practice into a daily habit: type each verse from memory, get instant feedback on every word, and review on a schedule so the verses stay with you for years, not days. It is free to start, and you can add any of the verses above in seconds.
FAQ
Questions about Bible verses on easter
What is a good Bible verse for Easter?
Matthew 28:6 — "He is not here: for he is risen, as he said" — is the classic Easter verse. For a fuller statement of what Easter means, memorize 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Paul’s summary that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day.
Where in the Bible is the resurrection story?
All four Gospels record it: Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, and John 20. Paul lists the eyewitnesses in 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, and the rest of the New Testament — Romans, 1 Peter, Revelation — explains what the resurrection means for believers.
What verse says "He is risen"?
The angel says "He is risen" in Matthew 28:6 and Mark 16:6, and in Luke 24:6 the angels say "He is not here, but is risen." Any of the three makes a wonderful first Easter memory verse.
