Bible Verses About Baptism to Memorize
Baptism is the gospel acted out in water. Paul explains the picture in Romans 6: going under the water, we are "buried with him by baptism into death"; coming up, we rise "even so we also should walk in newness of life." Death, burial, resurrection — preached without a word, by every believer who has ever stepped into the water.
It is also a command with a long pedigree. Jesus was baptized Himself in the Jordan, heaven opening and the Father speaking; He told His church to baptize the nations; and on the day of Pentecost, Peter’s first sermon ended with "Repent, and be baptized every one of you." The Ethiopian official’s question still stands for every new believer: "what doth hinder me to be baptized?"
These ten KJV verses are ideal to memorize before your own baptism, to share with someone considering it, or to recite at a baptism service.

Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Romans 6:3-4
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
"Repent, and be baptized every one of you" — the response Peter called for in the church’s very first sermon.
Galatians 3:26-27
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
As many as have been baptized into Christ "have put on Christ" — baptism as clothing yourself in a new identity.
Matthew 3:16-17
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Jesus’ own baptism, with the Spirit descending and the Father’s voice — the moment every believer’s baptism echoes.
Colossians 2:12
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Buried with Him in baptism and risen through faith — Paul’s second telling of the burial picture, with faith at its center.
Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved — belief and baptism standing side by side in Jesus’ commission.
1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Peter calls baptism "the answer of a good conscience toward God" — saving not by washing flesh but by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Acts 8:36-38
And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
The Ethiopian’s eager question — "what doth hinder me to be baptized?" — models the joyful immediacy of new faith.

What is the main Bible verse about baptism?
Matthew 28:19 — "baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" — is the foundational command, and Romans 6:3-4 is the key passage explaining baptism’s meaning as burial and resurrection with Christ. Acts 2:38 records the first gospel call to be baptized.
What does baptism symbolize in the Bible?
Romans 6:3-4 and Colossians 2:12 picture baptism as burial and resurrection with Christ — the old life buried, a new life begun. Galatians 3:27 adds the image of "putting on" Christ like a garment, and 1 Peter 3:21 calls it the answer of a good conscience toward God.
What Bible verse should I memorize before getting baptized?
Romans 6:4 is the best single verse — "we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead... even so we also should walk in newness of life." It explains exactly what you are professing as you go under the water and rise again.
