wow! It’s been awhile since I looked at the messages for this group. I agree a year to go along with the dates would be helpful. It is August 1, 2020. I had intended to take about 18 months to memorize the whole book. I didn’t make that but I am persevering. Currently working on Chapter 6 with a review of one of the previous chapters daily. I just want to encourage you to keep going. Any bit of Scripture memorization is great. Even if it’s slower than we anticipated. God’s Word will not return unto Him void. It will accomplish that which He sent it forth (Isaiah). I am interested in the Facebook group.
just thought I would jump back in here. I wish this works out the year in here lol it is now may 2020 and I am back reviewing all my Galatians stuff. yes, I did make it through the whole book and now II am making it current again! maybe we should jump into Facebook again? I haven’t been keeping up with things the way II would like, but I am determined to get this back! who is in here??
I anyone still on this group? I am back at it working on the last part of chapter 3. I know I eventually will finish:))
I would definitely be interested in the Facebook group!
Thank you Mickie!!! ❤️ I miss Beth's encouraging videos on the ssmt page which she's not doing anymore - bummed. Anyway, I need much encouragement. I've joined a group spun off of Beth's SSMT concept. We are a Facebook group that's doing the exact same thing together and the admin (she's also a member on here) Heather, gives needed encouragement. If you'd like to join us just let me know.
I’m so glad to see someone post! Hi Kami! I just finished Chapter 3 yesterday! I was tempted to give up but knew I must carry on. it doesn’t matter how long it takes, and every verse matters!
Sad to say but I'm still working on completing chapter 2 (almost done). I took a 6 month break. I'm back at it though! I'm thankful for God's grace! 😊
Is it possible to add chapters 5 & 6 NIV84? Thank you!
Praying for you all that you will continue to press on!
I will not have completed Galatians this year, but I’m halfway through Chapter 3 & will keep going in 2019!
Amen! I have so enjoyed this practice in 2018 and have been very encouraged. Glad to be doing this with you all.
I just want to encourage everyone to continue making time to hide God’s Word jn your heart. it’s worth the effort.
tayestes, i thought I would do that too. I’m just trying to firm up my memory of chapter 4 and thought I would start looking at 5. Maybe by this weekend I will get started on 5.
Also 5 and 6 in NASB. TraciMom, I added 5 and 6 in my own profile and have been practicing them there, so that if they end up added in the group as well I'll be ready. :)
Hi! would it be possible to add chapters 5 and 6 in the ESV? please!
wow! just want everyone to know, chap 4 is much easier than chap 3! hang in there if you are struggling through 3 - it is a hard one but you can do it!!
Heather, thanks for sharing that. You are encouraging us!!!
wow! I just realized I actually have 3 chapters memorized!! woo hoo! keep pressing on!
Hi shelbs, I hope your grandmother is doing well. I have been praying for both of you! When you get the chance, would you mind adding Chapter 5 in the NASB translation?
yeah! I am on to chapter 3 but plan on reviewing 2 some.
Yay, Tracy!
gfailing, you got this!
I just finished two weeks of hostessing. A lot of catch-up to do! 0_o
I have finally gotten through chapter 2. God's word is such a treasure. May you all be blessed in your memorization.❤
Wat to go, Tracy! I am finally through Chapter 2! July is full of events, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to get back to my every-other-day verses, but it feels good to be moving again.
I have gone through all 6 chapters and while I can’t really recite passages, I feel the time has been well spent. I’m quitting this reviewing but will review once in a while!
Mickie, good plan! I do something similar. I have the memorized verses written in a spiral - which I decided to show where paragraph breaks are. Sometimes I review a chapter and sometimes the paragraph. (I am camping with hubby. It can depend on how long I can be by myself. I am VERBAL in my recitation. Heck, I am verbal always. : D ) The spiral, actually, is to take on walks. The "hiking with a notebook" vibe seems better than "hiking with my cell phone" vibe. Go figure.
I have finally figured out a way to review whole passages and not just disconnected verses. when a verse comes due for review on ST, I recite the entire chapter from verse 1 to the verse being reviewed. This is giving me more “big picture” review & allows me to see which verses/sections I’m still weak on.
I wouldn’t look at it as struggling. You’re still working and moving forward! I’m still in Chapter 2, also (vs 17), and I might not finish the whole book in a year, but that’s not what’s important. Remember, every verse is a victory!
I've struggled so much this past month and am way behind. Traveling can help or hinder depending on what kind of traveling. Anyway, I'm still in chapter 2....verse 14 now. Anyone else struggling?
You guys are making great progress! I am sort of-kind of moving forward again. I hope to finish Chapter 2 in the next couple of weeks. I’m trying to get where I’m consistently reading & reviewing what I know all at one time. I feel like I know a lot of individual verses but am missing the big picture.
I’m working on keeping the flow of the verses without having to stop and back up.
Finished Chapter 3 and started Chapter 4. imho, Chapter 4 is way easier!
Hello, my name is Nicole, and I have been working on Galatians. I am halfway through chapter 3, but I have been using the HCSB. Is there any way to get the HCSB version in our group verses?
Tracy, love your diligence. End of a chapter is such a milestone. (Actually more loke a 5K or 10K!!!) Anyone else finish a chapter recently? Let's celebrate what God has been doing among us!
Mickie, love that you are reviewing.
Lord, help us to be faithful. Even if we are in a season where we can't take a step forward, You are pleased when we stand firm. (I assume You are. You sure tell us to stand firm a lot! :D)
chapter 5...WOW!! That’s great, Tracy. I have come to a stop. Still reviewing on Scripture Typer’s schedule, but not advancing. School end this week, though, and I plan to start moving forward, again.
I’m working on Chapter 5 now. I have discovered a lot of this one is familiar, as I have memorized it in pieces before. It’s good to do the whole thing now.
yay, Kathleen. Agree with Mickie - each verse is a milestone, but I would feel silly celebrating publicly that often. I relate to not wanting to forget. I use a weekend day to review. Mickie, I relate to the slow down. Had a lot of lesson prep to do. Our small group decided to meet in April, and I didn't have any lesson material. So I slowed way down and focused on review. Hang in there, Shelbs. You are awesome to organize this! Rock star!
Shelbs, it looks good now! Thank you!
Kami, I added it twice and it shows them onthere. are you still having a problem??
Way to go, Kathleen! As Beth Moore said, every verse memorized is a victory! I had hoped to be through Ch 2 by the end of April, but I am just to verse 14. I’m not sweating it, though. I am proud I have not quit - by the grace of God - and school will be out in a few weeks & I can focus more on memory work. I’m so incredibly thankful for the gift of God’s Word!
hi Everyone! I just had to post that I finally got chapter one done! it took me a lot longer than I thought but since I have always had trouble even memorizing ONE verse, I am extremely happy 😀 I am kind of afraid to start another chapter but I will take it slow and keep reviewing chapter one so hopefully I won’t lose it. 🙏. I love reading everyone’s posts and seeing I’m not in this alone. 😀
Shelbs, that version, NIV84 is still missing verses 16-22 in chapter 1. Sorry I forgot to mention that.
kami, what chapter because on mine it shows them all. I’ll update soon. so sorry I have been MIA. I havnt been doing this at all with my grandmothers illness, my time to get still I either fall asleep or read a book and just rest. I really need to start back up. thanks for all these encouraging words. y’all are a blessing and I’m praying the word would bring life to your very bones and speak joy and strength into your days! thank y’all for being faithful.
HeatherW, good word! Thanks for sharing that.
Kami, I have a friend who is memorizing in a different version than I am. we review together so it is fun to see the differences and similarities between the two different versions. I think it has helped some in the understanding of some of it. you can definitely read another version and still keep your version that you memorize straight.
Kami, you are brave.
My fave paper Bible is ESV but I am memorizing NIV, because I thought the sentences flowed off my tongue better. That said, if my studies refer me to a Galatians passage, I grab my phone not my paper Bible. I am kind of afraid of reading a verse in a different version, 'cuz it might mess up my memory work! Silly, huh? But I bet I am not the only one :D
Still I hugely admire your heart for digging deeper and understanding better what our God and Father us saying to you. You rock!
shelbs, by the way, in the NIV 84 there are versus missing. those verses are 16 - 22.
I got really behind in the month of February because we were on vacation. I am now on chapter 2 verse 5 so I guess I'm not as far behind as I thought. I do have one comment and am wondering if others have felt the same way...
I've been memorizing the NIV 84 and this morning I read it in the NLT after having memorized in the NIV 84 and knowing it through my bones. I felt like the NLT brought it more life. I felt like I know Paul and his humility better. I know his emotions better. I feel like he's more sensitive to his audience. Does anyone else feel that way when you read it in a different version? I'm still going to memorize it in the NIV 84 version but it was really helpful to read it in another version for the storyline to get deeper into my brain. :)
I love reading how everyone is adapting as we move along through Galatians. March got incredibly busy, and it slowed me down quite a bit. I am a couple of verses behind where I would like to be (I’m through 2:8). But, by God’s grace, I have not quit, and I will keep moving forward. Our goal is not to check verses off a list but hide His living, active Word in our hearts, where is can transform us. I still need a good way to review everything I’ve done so far together. I think when several verses from the same chapter show up in my review for a day, I’ll do all the verses for that chapter. And I try to read from 1:1 to my current verse once a day (not always successfully).
Tracy, Indeed! Love the way you are adapting and adjusting as you go. Had company last week. O_o. Will be doing review for the next week! ;) With the first two chapters finished, I have been thinking the week after that I will 1) keep plugging thru 3rd chapter on the week days. 2) Do review work on weekend. Chapter 1 on Saturday, Chapter 2 on Sunday. Hoping the Spirit will teach me "big picture" and "flow of presentation" in this book. That would be a rich blessing, so I think I will slow down and allow that. We will see!
I was finding it too hard to keep up with all the chapters at once. I’m freezing Ch 1 and 2 but continuing to memorize. So, my numbers might go down but I can keep going. even if at the end I can’t recite all 6 chapters at once, the Word is still getting in my heart.
gfailing, Yay for your first chapter! You are rocking this. This is not something many feel called to do, but for some very good reason the Spirit is nudging us to do this and He is making it possible. I can't shake that verse about
"writing His words on our heart"
when I see what the Spirit is doing here.
(Obviously I CAN shake off verse references!! : D. I think the "writing on our hearts" verse is O.T. )
Even though I am going much slower than others I keep plugging along. Am working on verses 4 and 5 in chapter 2. I have never completely memorized a chapter til now!
Thank you so much Shelbs for for working so hard to get the NET version I am using! I really appreciate it!
My advice is just keep working. I have slowed way down. part of it is the difficulty of Chapter 2 (I’m on Verse 5), part of it is the busyness and stress of life. But I keep reviewing daily & add the next verse when I’m ready. There’s no point moving on to a new verse before I’ve properly absorbed the one I’m on. I do have a time goal (Ch 2 by the end of April), but I will not despair if I don’t reach it as long as I’m moving forward. I need to get back to reciting/reading before I go to sleep; that’s a great strategy!
thank you so much! I bought erasable flash cards and an erasable notebook and repetition works for me. also in addition to daily review I also say what I know at bedtime and let my brain keep working on it while I sleep! sounds silly but for me it helps!
NIV thru 6 is added. keep up the incredible memorizing!! Any advice for newcomers, those who have gotten busy, those who are struggling?
I can add them, what version?
when will 4 & 5 he added?
Thank you for adding NIV 84! 🤗
does anyone need Ch 3 or 4 up?
Kami, Ch 1 is added. I will add Ch 2 soon. Sorry for the delay.
Shelbs, could you please add the NIV 84 VERSION? My 3 friends and I are memorizing from that version. It is NOT the same as the NIV version.
The days spent “solidifying” Chapter 1 have been well worth it. I start Chapter 2 tomorrow. I’m so thankful for the grace to see the beauty in and love God’s Word.
I am “solidifying” chapter 1. ( love that word). How amazing it is to memorize Gods wonderful word.
keep it up ladies! I as well just started Ch 2 and wow, am I amazed at the grace of the Lord and how he has helped my memory! Kami, I will work on that this weekend! thanks for letting me know!
Could you please add NIV84 version? A friend and I are memorizing that version.
Mickie, I think soldifying it is a good idea! I just finished a chapter, but I am going to do what you are doing. Thank you for sharing that idea. I am struggling with the flow.
yes..the buts, ands, fors, & nors can frustrate me. I just keep repeating & emphasizing the words I miss. And remember that the point of the verse is the most important thing. God’s Word is living & changing us as we internalize it.
I am at the end of Chapter 1 as well..I too hope to have it solidified by the end of the month. I think perhaps I get bogged down on being exact...and get discouraged when I miss a 'for' or an 'and'. I so love the encouraging posts.
yea! Chapter 1 has been memorized! I’m going to work on solidifying it the rest of the month and begin Chapter 2 on 3/1.
Chapter 2 has been much harder for me, also! Thank you Shelbs for doing all the admin for this group - the typing helped me get through Chapter 1 much faster than I thought I could. Pushing through these long Ch2 verses!!! Praying for you all!
Yay, Tracy. There are some lonnnnng verses in Chapter 2!
Lori, so sorry! I just finished uploading Galatians Ch 1 of NET for you! I'll work on Ch 2 next.
Tracy, you are doing fantastic! I am just starting Ch 2, any tips?
I’m finding Ch 2 much harder than Ch 1 but I’ve reached the last verse of Ch 2!
thanks Magan! Lori - I can not import, BUT I have the option of copy and pasting from a different website! that being said, I will work on Chapter 1 of NET tonight for sure, then I’ll slowly get Ch 2 up! How is everyone else doing?? feeling good? need encouragement? stuck? killin’ it? haha
Thank you, Shelbs!
Prayers for you in your new full-time job. Praying for good restful sleep at night.
You are a rock star to be doing this.
Lori, I unfortuantely am not given the option of NET. so I will reach out to a guy on ScriptureTypers team who helps me and see what I can do! ALSO Ch 3’s are up! YALL ARE KILLING THIS!! KEEP IT UP!! thanks for the ideas, encouragements, and perseverance! the Lord is so pleased!
sorry that I have been MIA, I have a new full time job and exhaustion has been kicking my butt! I’ll add NET, and Ch3’s tonight & tomorrow!!
that is a great idea, HeatherW! one thing I’ve loved about this so far is how real it’s made Paul’s personal story to me. thanks for the encouragement, Magan!
mickie I ended up pulling out a map and traced where he went. it really helped me visualize everything- now when I say that part I see the map in my head.
Shelbs - I am using the NET version. You said if the version we are using is not listed to let you know and you would add it. I would appreciate it!
Mickie, I hear you. The travel-log almost undid me. Persevere, sweet sister. We are praying for you and with you.
JTchosenlady, you go, girl! We are in this together. High-fives (and some hand-waving praise action) to the sisters and brother(s)(?) here. It is so good to have y'all's company!
When will chapter 3 be added?
I’m happy to have found this group! I’m to Galatians 1:17. I’m finding this biographical section a little challenging, but I continue to press on and am loving what God is doing through my memory work!
or maybe it already did that? I am new to this app ... how does this work?
so I just found this group. thought I would join in but now I have a question. if I click on the verses here I now have duplicates on my verses list (since I have already started) is there a way I can transfer my progress that I have already done to here?
we will be walk with you the whole way through, from 6 months to 24 months - keep on pushing! the Lord says “well done my good and FAITHFUL servant!” He didn’t say “successful”, he said “faithful”. whether we get it word for word or paraphrased, whether we finish in 6 months or 24 months - the Lord is please to have captured your willing heart, eager to bless you and strengthen you with His Word.
looks like many in this group are going for 12 months or less. Just wanted to high-five any of you shooting for 18months who are as pumped as I am to have nine verses already in your brains!!! Whoop! Whoop! Keep chugging, folks! I’m sitting here amazed.
I just saw this invitation post buried within the Facebook post. I love this app as it is most helpful in my memorization journey! I love being able to share with brother in sisters in Christ! thank you Shelbs for starting this group!
AWESOME!! keep it up, thanks for being a diligent sister!! Beth mentioned on her video that she goes thru her other books once a week. But may be different for other people!
I'm finished with chapter 1. I had actually started memorizing Galatians a year ago but didn't finish. I'm wondering how often you have to review other books you've memorized as to not lose them.
Thank you, Shelbs, for explaing that. You are a blessing!
in your settings, you can change how often you Review. but they are no longer considered mastered if you leave them unreviewed. but once you do review them, they count them as “mastered” again. it is just to continue reminding you that you must review for your brain to remember and claim “mastered”.
I am a newbie to this app. I noticed verses are due for a review. What does STyper do if I don't review the verses? Does it no longer consider that verse to be "mastered"? Is there a website with FAQs so I don't need too bug y'all here? Have a blessed Sunday!
Shelbs! Thanks for all your work. Noticed you fell off "my screen" of Group Members. (Ladies memorizing the same area of Gal. that I am in.) Did you have to recreate your profile ti get things to work!? Ugh. Appreciate your work! Hugs to all!
also, if you have recently joined this group and you don’t see your Bible Translation, let me know so I can add it for you! Excited for you to be joining, know you are being prayed for!
