@Noah Fine. That is a good question.
Jesus is also omniscient, meaning he knows everything. So all choices would be known by him, and have occurred to him. He just wouldn’t have chosen to.
Sometimes the purpose of life questions and depression changes as we age, grow and experience life’s hazards. Some have chemical changes going on in their brains that they cannot control. It is not a bad thing if a person seeks medical/chemical help when needed, God placed these kinds of helps in our world to help us when needed. Mental health is not automatically cured by believing, just as a broken bone is not automatically cured by believing. As a nurse, I have seen way too many people almost go crazy because they are feeling depressed or anxious and then they beat themselves up because they feel like this is caused by lack of faith. A person should never rule out physical causes of bad feelings. We can always put our trust in God, but hopefully also while rightly diving the word of God.
Jesus was divinity and humanity combined. I don’t think we can fully comprehend that. The temptation bit is a good question. I think there are some good resources and references for study. For example: Gotquestions.org, commentaries. I think that is a fair, and intelligent questions about Jesus being perfect and temptation…but what does the Bible say about it? There are several verses discussing how he was tempted one every way , such as Hebrews 4:15 (For we did not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been temped one every way, just as we are-yet did not sin). We may not understand exactly the hows and whys, but the Bible addresses this, to give us enough information about this topic to trust Him. Like I mentioned, we may not understand how and why, but it is addressed.
John 3:16: For God so loved the word. To me that means he loved everyone, and was willing to die for each and everyone of us, so that we might be saved and be with him. I am sure there are much more sophisticated and complex conversations to be had about the subject, but I don’t think it needs complexity. Someone can always throw in something that makes it not seem so, or makes someone doubt that. I would see you could get a lot from that verse.
Something I have found helpfully whenever I am questioning the purpose in life, when everything feels hopeless, when everything hurts too much, is the fact that when we have our life to Christ, we did just that. We g a v e our life to Christ, compete and total control. So if we ever considered talking our own life, we would actually be grabbing control of our life out of Jesus's hands. And do we really want to do that??
2. We always talk about how Jesus was human and how He went through everything we have going through. My question is, if Jesus is perfect, which He is. How did He ever go through real temptation? Like the temptation in the wilderness, if He is perfect, He has complete perfect thoughts, so the wrong choice would never have occurred to Him?? I would love your thoughts!
1. Do you believe God loves everyone to the same degree? Christians and non Christians. I am working on turning my thoughts into an essay and so I have been asking people's thoughts for a few months.
Hey guys, so two questions:
the purpose of life is to glorify God and enjoy him forever
question what is the purpose of life
your both admins just to let ya know
and I hope in this group we can
yea I will but I’m also keeping this group
I can't be on much so I need someone active to be on top of the group to keep it active and keep away accusations and arguments.
@Noah I was wondering if you would run that group for me.
Hey guys I already have a group for bible discussion
People do tend to get all bent out of shape when debating ideas. Most of us don’t know how to debate, or really listen to one another without getting our feelings bent out of shape.
but the rules don’t allow for growth or expansion, or challenging of ideas.
I agree we should not dismiss or shut others down. Calling someone a demon is flat out wrong. That reminds me of JW calling anyone who does not agree with them of Satan. BUT, it is Marilyn’s group, so she does have the right to do what she wants with it. It is a nice group if the rules are followed.
also Chris sorry she called you a demon that was wrong
Bible bird what dose that mean?
yes I agree Chris, we should challenge each other’s beliefs and not shut them down. also we should not be so firm in our beliefs that we won’t listen to anyone else
hey sorry I haven’t been on
not trying to be a jerk, but I think Marylin was right. Nothing against you Chris. And I am also not SDA. I just think her beliefs are more along my lines.
the basic rule of interpretation is that whenever we approach a text that’s obscure in meaning, we go to the more clear texts in scripture that will help us interpret the meaning of the obscure text.
our culture circumstances are to never determine our interpretation of scripture
see what happened back there in that other chat bro? that’s a perfect example of what’s wrong with the church today, that is, they interpret scripture in light of current events instead of interpreting scripture with scripture like we are suppose to do
what do you want to talk about?
