Rosie: I'm not sure. I don't quite remember. XP
Hannah: Btw, did you get my letter in the mail? I had messed up on something, so just making sure it got to you okay. :)
And killing everyone else in the process… xP
xD Or killing yourself preparing for Nationals... :P
Thanks. :) Not going to Nationals allows me to avoid some life-draining socialization, anyway…
Thank you! I really enjoyed doing it! :D
Haha, we've already gotten over this...although it's sad you guys can't compete at Nationals, at least you finished strong. :)
Thanks, and you too! You did a really good job with your dramatization of Jonah 1. (And the test, of course.) I think some of us were pretty much talking about it for the rest of the day. :)
The Bible Bee says
here that the scores will be released on August 27. Hopefully we can trust them.
I would hope I don't qualify… but then you and the others wouldn't either… *sigh*
Great job, to all of the contestants! 3 days until scores are released!!! (Hopefully) :D
5 days till Locals!!! (and I've never felt more unprepared! xD jk)
Once again, congratulations, Hannah!! :D
I FINISHED ALL MY VERSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you haven't heard this already, Landon and I finished the first (out of 6, hopefully) Bible Bee video reviewing week 1 of the Sword Study! If you want to see it and the next ones as they come out, the link is www.vimeo.com/channels/biblebee
I agree; Psalm 86:1-8 is amazing! Over and over, he asks God for grace, mercy, and deliverance - David never seems to take anything for granted. Puts most (all?) of us to shame, really.
Another of my favorites is Isaiah 1:16-18, almost as blunt as you can get. Just imagine shouting out that in a major city. :P It's what we really need to do, though…
I do like how blunt the prophets are. They get straight to the point, and aren't afraid of offending people - because the Gospel is supposed to offend! :) One passage that really stood out to me was Psalm 86:1-8; it is a wonderful prayer of humble trust in the Lord, and reliance solely upon Him. And I also really like 2 Chronicles 14:11 for similar reasons, as you can see how Asa humbly relied and acknowledged God as the their only way of victory over the enemy.
Thanks - you too!
Wow, if I have to pick one, I think so far I'd say Joel 2:12-13. Joel's very blunt about things: don't worry about tearing your clothes, or other physical penance; put your heart in the right place and return mournfully to God. I've always liked Joel. :)
Have any stood out to you (or anyone else, who never seems to show up)?
Wow, you're doing great!! Keep up the great work! I know it's probably really early to be asking, but of all the passages, which ones have stood out to you most? Studying is going really well - and I am glad, because I was in no way ready for BB to start so soon =) I finished my verses early Thursday morning, and am on Week 3, same as you.
Pretty well. I have a couple more passages to memorize (the work of a day, if I felt like it…), and am doing two SS days per day, just like last year. I think I'm starting Week 3 today. What about you?
Wow. We are so inactive on here. How is everyone's studying/memorizing coming along?
Okay. Looking into them :) Thanks XD
(killer angels sounds...fun) haha no jk it sounds cool
Yes, as a matter of fact, I have. :)
Gods and Generals,
The Killer Angels, and
The Last Full Measure. I suppose you'll see my review through G+, but I might as well leave
a link here too.
Anybody recently finish any good books?
Oh, I understood; I was just being facetious…. :P
I quite enjoy having a story stuck in my head, though—you'll never stop improving and developing it! On the other hand, who doesn't wish thoughts were easier to put into words? (Anyone who has talked to me in person knows that my tongue struggles with this. My fingers are much better at it, though.) :D
You'd understand if you read the book. The subtitle of the book - A Teen Rebellion Against Low Expectations - helps it ('it' meaning a rebellion against rebellion) make a bit more sense. Make sense? :) :: I know! I basically have books written in my head, but I can never get it on paper... which is really rather frustrating... and is also why I'm not sure I am going to get very far. But I really shouldn't be saying that while reading Do Hard Things :P
Exactly—if I had studied only to do well in the competition, I would be very disappointed. (As it is, I'm not.)
Yes, I have heard of Do Hard Things. I've not read it, though. (As far as a rebellion against rebellion goes… that kinda sounds hypocritical!) I'll need to scour our shelves for it, but I don't think we own it.
Aside from poetry, which I am pretty serious about, I write like you (but maybe a bit more seriously), except I don’t write the first chapter of my story (-ies), I write one in the middle! I do like how they come out, though! It’s especially hard, though, when you calculate that the well-developed story you have in your head would fill approximately four books… Then you calculate that at a rate of one chapter per week, it would take you over two years to finish the first draft… :Þ
I see. Didn't you have 20 _seconds_ left on the local test? ;-) And how did you do that anyway? I always finish with either a little bit more, or a little bit less than 5 minutes. Oh, that would make sense - I kind of liked how pretty much the only cross references they asked were from our memory verses...I get what you mean, though. But hey, it was lots of fun, and that wasn't even the reason we learned and studyed it all, right? :: Wow, you really are a bookworm. And I see you really enjoy Lamplighter. Btw, have you heard of Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris? The book is a rebellion against rebellion. ;-) I finally got around to starting it, and having read the first 90 pages in one day, I think it will become one of my top favorite books. I would highly recommend it to any teen. :: Lol I'll put it this way: one of _the last ways_ I would describe myself is being a writer. :P Well...I wasn't really trying to write anything good in the first place, I was just sort of scribbling. Ugh - how to describe it! I guess you could say it is the first 4 pages of the first chapter to a *possible* book (according to Nicolas, I'm not really getting my hopes up). It isn't all that great, but, at least better than I thought my scribbles could be. All I'll say is that the name of the chapter is "A Narrow Escape".
The reasons I have theorized for my low written test score:
1. I did it WAY too fast. You’re just not supposed to have 20 minutes left after Q200.
2. I didn’t know several of the questions covering the memory passages (many of which I hadn’t memorized).
3. My brain was worn out.
4. The test was not what I expected it to be. Where were all those Greek words I learned?
Since Bible Bee, I've read Prisoners of the Sea (in two days—I was so book-hungry!), Ishmael, Genesis, and Job. Today I'm reading Hand on the Bridle and Exodus.
Oh, and baby holding. I always do quite a lot of that, too. :)
I certainly don't know you like you're family. Must be why you writing doesn't shock me. I've actually started doing a bit more of that myself. What are you writing?
Thank you - I have to admit, I was quite suprised at how I did. Especially looking at both my written and oral score...lol...wait. *goes and checks BB website* Oh...I thought I got a pretty bad score on the test - what happened? You usually score a lot higher than me. LOL Exactly the same here - I've started, and started back up several books that I have *really* been wanting to read. What books are you reading presently? Um...other than loads of school, laundry, piano prep. and baby-holding - I've enjoyed getting back into reading (as I said before) and very interestingly, writing (if you knew me like my family, that would shock you).
Good job to you too! Yeah, I think it's funny that you got one more question correct than I did on the written test. :)
With Bible Bee over, I'm largely taking a break from memorization and studying, but I got a rigorous Bible reading plan up and going. And, of course, I now get to devour books in general! And work on all my various linguistic hobbies, and wash dishes! What about you?
My, it has been quiet on here....and Nationals is over.... Anyway, great job to all of the National qualifiers and their final scores!! What is everyone doing now that BB is done?
EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT: Yesterday morning, at 8:38 a.m., Mercy Evangeline Alexander was born into this world!! She is our third heaviest *smiles* - 9 lbs. 1 oz. She and her mom are both doing well. Though, prayer for Mom in her recovery and healing, and prayer for Mercy as she learns to eat would be much appreciated. :) "For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well." ~Psalm 139:13-14
Just popping on to say, ONE WEEK UNTIL NATIONALS!! :)
Ummm… Let's put it this way: if my crazy studying didn't involve Bible reading, the dust on my Bible would be an inch thick.
How is everyone in their Bible reading??
I'm doing fine and so is my studying! (Well, neither is as good as it should be, but anyway.)
How's the studying going for you all? :) Looking forward to seeing you all in about 1 and 1/2 months!!
@Rosie: It's nothing to be sorry for… :P
Sorry, Rosie. He sort of did imply. Tell Titus you're welcome. :D
@Mindelg: Oh, I get what I did. I think I got that out of the last part of Hannah's comment: "If you look at Caleb's last comment, he implied that he's on my side, though he definitely doesn't feel as strongly about it." I got confused. Very sorry about that. :P @Hannah: Titus thanks you :)
Rosie, I never said I thought you didn't like his titles, either (though I implied it)! I only encouraged him, just in case. Those are good titles, Titus!
Sure, like I'm the one jumping to conclusions. Very funny, Rosie. Notice what I said: "No smirking. *frown*" And from that you conclude that I think you dislike his titles? You ought to know better than that. I couldn't really tell whether your implication was meant to be taken as such, or just something you somehow thought to be sneaky, as both seemed equally unlikely…
@Hannah and Mindelg: Okay, now hold on! I never said I didn't like his titles! You both are jumping to conclusions! I said:
I implied that I didn't like his titles. *smirk*
Notice the word
implied -- I never said I didn't like his titles, I said that to make him think that (which explains why I smirked) because he was standing right there. And apparently, I succeeded in doing the same to you. ;-) Sneaky, huh? (okay, no not really) But anyway, I think his titles are just fine. @Hannah: His titles are: Chapter 1 --
Christ Gives us Spiritual Blessings, Chapter 2 --
By Grace we are Saved, Chapter 3 --
The Mystery of the Gospel is Revealed, Chapter 4 --
Unity in Christ, Chapter 5 --
Walking in Love, Light & Wisdom, and Chapter 6 --
Putting on the Armor of God. See, these are really good in my perspective! (this comment turned out *way* longer than I intended it to...)
What were his titles? I'm interested. What about key verses? You shouldn't be smirking! You wouldn't be too happy either, I'm sure! By the way, please show Titus this comment. It might encourage him, after the way you smirked at him and all that. *frown* NOTE TO TITUS: This note, though I don't exactly know what to say, is meant to encourage you after the way Rosie smirked at you and all that stuff. I'm sure your titles are great, I would like to know them. I just might use them myself... I'm glad you were standing by Rosie, so that she would say you weren't pleased and so I could encourage you. Hope you win (second)! :D If you look at Caleb's last comment, he implied that he's on my side, though he definitely doesn't feel as strongly about it. Oh, my, its almost 10:00! I need to go now.
No smirking. *frown*
Well, I picked Our Glorious Inheritance for chapter 1, Salvation and Inclusion for 2, God's Gospel Wisdom for 3, Newness in Christ for 4, Walk as Children of Light for 5, and Obey and be Strong for 6.
My key verses were 18, 16, 9, 24, 8, 10, respectively.
I had Titus do that on Friday, but, well, I think I'll have to make my own....Titus is standing right here and isn't pleased that I implied that I didn't like his titles. *smirk* What about you?
@Rosie and Nicolas: Did either of you pick titles and key verses for the Ephesians chapters as a part of your "Aerial View" study?
Lol I can just imagine you and Elisabeth doing that. :D And I'm sure you won't talk to me at all. ;-) I'm planning on bringing my Bible Bee study notebooks, so....
I'll just talk to Mercy, and maybe Titus and Royal. Especially Titus, about Bible Bee. No, I'm just kidding. Completely just kidding. I'm soo excited about today! Yesterday, Elisabeth and I kept saying to each other, "Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow!" And today we keep saying, "Today, today, today, today, today, today!" I'm really excited.
Sorry, but I do think it's quite silly. I know....being serious is no fun. :) You don't want to talk to me anymore? Well, I'm sorry, but I don't think you can get away from that...unless you plan on being quiet all evening....*ahem* ;-)
Oh, dearest Rosie, you believe this is silly? {starts pouting} you're too serious! Please? You're not any fun! I don't feel like talking to you any more. {runs off crying} JUST KIDDING! JUST KIDDING! JUST KIDDING! JUST KIDDING! JUST KIDDING! JUST KIDDING! JUST KIDDING!
For shame, your Sarcasticness, 'tis but a trifling formality, which, I assent, is rather extraneous, yet one cannot in due honesty dub it silly - which is itself a most absurd term, begging your pardon.
Hey, you're not dragging me into that -- you can be silly if you want to. I am never silly (as if!). ;-)
@Nicolas: Don't be too sad. Remember how I used to spell your name wrong? @ rosie: I know you were. So was I, my dear Rosie. ;D We can start doing the same thing the boys are doing.
@Mindelg--Well, my dear Caleb, studying is going fine. ;) I've gotten quite far in my Ephesians study--though, I'm a bit behind on my verses. I'm hoping to catch up on them by the end of this week, but we shall see...
@Hannah--*jaw drop* I had a TYPO?? Augh!! This utterly ruins my reputation!!!
Hannah, you didn't offend me in any way; I was just playing around :) I'm sure Great Treasures is a great website!
@ Mindelg: Yes, you're right. It does not strike me with awe in any way, though it is pretty neat. @ Gods Maiden of Virtue: I do understand what you mean, only using the words awesome for God and his attributes and things like that. I do sincerely hope that I did not offend you in any way. I really just meant it's really cool. @ Nicolas: Wow! You actually COMMENTED on here! and Wow! I actually spelled your name RIGHT! and Nicolas, um, well, there's a typo in your comment. You said: "*facepalm* I still don't understand why are so vehemently against the word "awesome"...." I think you meant: "*facepalm* I still don't understand why you are so vehemently against the word "awesome".... " You forgot the word "you".
@Nicolas: Wow! I actually succeeded in getting you to respond! Anyway, I am not
vehemently against the word awesome; I just like to reserve it for when I am talking about God, His attributes, etc. Now, I'm sure the next thing you were planning on saying was that I don't need to impose it on others, which is true, and I agree with that. And that is why I said
"....sorry, I just had to say that ;-)
I was just playing around.
Well, my dear Nicolas, of a truth, I do find myself in doubt that Great Treasures strikes Hannah with awe. (Begging your pardon for not using all caps.)
How's your studying going?
*facepalm* I still don't understand why are so vehemently against the word "awesome"....
I'm not sure what Greek words I will be doing for chapter 2 yet. I'll let you know when I do. I object to the last part of your comment....sorry, I just had to say that ;-)
oh I see GMOV. what greek words r u doing for chapther 2? You should get on great treasures. it is great. no, its AWESOME!
@Mindelg: Yes, that is pretty annoying. Titus and I chose those two for Greek words for chapter 1 as well. @Hannah: No, I do not use greattreasures.org; and yes, all the Juniors have the same test, same thing with the Seniors and Primaries. True, I could study Ephesians with ESV, but as I use NKJV for Bible Bee, that would throw me off. By "dealing with" using the ESV Reformation Study Bible, I just meant that since I don't use ESV, it would be slightly bothersome -- especially since everything else I read and study from is in NKJV.
I also chose purpose for chapter 1. I don't know what to do with 2, yet. Rosie, do you use greattreasures.org, the website Bible Bee recommended? GMOV: I'm guessing they do the same Junior written test for all versions, right? You could study Ephesians with ESV and not have to deal with it. ~Hannah P.S. What is there to deal with ESV, anyway?
@Rosie: What's really annoying is that Strong's Concordance uses neither ESV nor NKJV.
For Greek words I just picked ones that were common to the chapter, glory and inheritance. For chapter two, I think I'll do grace and peace, maybe also flesh.
What were your greek words, rosie? I chose blessed and inheritance (this is for chapter 1) and glory
There's nothing wrong with it being ESV, I just said that because I'm using NKJV.
Well, sort of...at the beginning, I just chose my keywords for Ephesians as a whole and then looked up the Greek words; but yesterday, we began studying each verse individually (starting with verses 1-6 of chapter 1), and when doing that, we found a part on Bible Hub where you can look up a verse, and it will show you the Greek word to go along with particular words in it. So that was especially helpful (to me at least). What about you?
Deal with it? I think I'll overlook that…
Thanks for the link! I'm not sure I'll use it, but it sure looks helpful! So have you picked Greek words for chapter 1?
Yes, I have been busy.... Well, we only have the ESV Reformation Study Bible, so I kind of just have to deal with it. :P Since I/we (Titus and I) just started using it today, we have only gotten to the notes and outline at the beginning of Ephesians. Bible Hub is a website where you can search/study/look up a lot of information, etc. on any part of the Bible (that is probably a really lame definition of it though). Here's the website if you want to check it out: http://www.biblehub.com/
Yeah, pretty busy. You too, I think… I usually have from about 3 o'clock to 5 o'clock to study, and some time between supper and bedtime. (So probably anywhere from 2 and a half to 3 and a half hours.) About the Reformation Study Bible - do you use the NKJV or ESV one? And what is Bible Hub?
Wow -- you must have been busy! How much time do you have each day to study? I only get to study in the morning (about 2 hours), and *sometimes* a little in the evening, so....not nearly as much as I'd like. Titus and I are studying one chapter every week, and maybe one day into the next week depending on how long it takes. Right now, we are using Bible Hub to study every verse individually, and look up Greek words (it has Strong's Concordance on it); and then we are using Bible Gateway to look up cross references and things related to Ephesus, etc. Oh, and about the Reformation Study Bible - Mom suggested that to us this morning, and it really is helpful!
I'm sort of trying to follow my own "Sword Study" layout. For instance, one day I "overviewed" the whole book, somewhat equivalent to the first week of a Sword Study. Then I wrote chapter 1 verse summaries, and did a study on the work of the Trinity as shown in that chapter. After doing two Greek word studies with cross-references, I'm pretty much done with chapter 1.
As far as resources go, I'm using my Reformation Study Bible
a lot,
GreatTreasures.org, the last two Sword Studies, and some other things, especially for finding cross-references. Oh, and how could I not mention Strong's Concordance?
@Hannah: That's great that you already know a bunch of your verses! And um, no, I haven't checked those websites yet :-/ I've been quite busy lately, as I'm sure you can relate. :) But I promise I'll check it out *sometime.* @Mindelg: I am memorizing at least 10 verses a day, and have memorized about the same amount as you. I am working on the Mark 1:1-11 and Acts 4:24-31 passages. Well, we (Titus and I) have a reading plan for what we read from Ephesians each week. And then for studying, we are studying it as if we had a Sword Study, in that we are going through the SS for 1 John, but doing the things in relation to Ephesians. And I personally, am reading from both Gill's and Calvin's commentaries on Ephesians. And we're doing a bunch of other various things, but I can't explain them right now, as I was just called to help make dinner. What about you?
@Rosie: Good. :)
I'm trying to memorize 10 verses a day. I think I know about 70-80 already. What about you?
And how are you (and Titus) studying Ephesians? I mean, are you trying to study it as if you had a Sword Study, or by reading commentaries all day, or something else?
SOOO funny about Titus! Yeah, they'd suspect something. That'd be funny too, because there's nothing to find out! :D Yes, please help Titus lots and lots, I'll just have to work a little harder. I also want him to win second! ;) I'm not too far along with my verses, though I am seeing how many times I can type Ephesians. :D I did find out, though, that I already knew about a quarter of my verses, which is really nice. Did you check out that cross-reference website, or those three websites that tell you about Ephesus?
Oh, we will -- or well, I will, since I'll be the only one who would be home to help him. We've already decided that he study with me in the morning; works pretty well, since we both get along....:) Btw, how many verses are you memorizing a day? And how far along are you?
That's hilarious. Make sure you and your brothers help him a lot! :D (Because I really do want him to win second!)
And you're probably right - they'd want to check into things… I wonder what they'd find out…?
@Mindelg: True....though, Titus wasn't too thrilled. When he found out, he put his head down and said, "This is devastating." :) Yes, that would be very cool, but, I think people would begin to suspect something....@Hannah: Yeah, right ;-)
Mindelg: AND the two Primaries and five Seniors! That'd be great! and then, Titus would win 2nd, I would win first. And then, Martin and Nicolas and Christian would tie! And then, you, Caleb, would win first for Juniors, Rosie would win second, and... lets see... maybe Hannah-Abigail Toth would win 3rd?
I guess… But we both made it to Nationals, along with three of your siblings, one of mine, and Martin, so that doesn't really matter. Wouldn't it be cool if all 8 Juniors who qualified from RRLC made it to the semi-finals?
@Mindelg: Well, I did understand the questions better, but still....and yes, I did have more than 20 seconds left when I finished the test, but hey, you finished in time-- and did way better than me ;-)
@Rosie: I kinda liked the vagueness - it made the questions more interesting. But on the other hand, I thought so long about some of them that I finished the test with only about 20 seconds left. (And had no time to check my answers. You finished earlier than that, right?) But I agree, it's annoying when you spend a lot of time memorizing something only to find out you didn't need to… :/
http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/anatolia/ss/40512-Ephesus-Through-Ancient-History.htm
GMOV: http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/artarchaeologyarchitect/qt/Ephesus.htm and http://ancienthistory.about.com/cs/artarchaeology/a/histephesus.htm tell you all about ancient Ephesus
@Hannah: Right.....not. ;-) @Mindelg: Okay. Yeah, I mostly focused on the verses in 1 John as well, but I was kind of annoyed at how vague a lot of the questions were -- I had put so much effort into making sure I knew each individual verse in 1 John perfectly, and then they only went by chapters, and didn't focus a lot on the things you'd expect them to. Which is why I wasn't nearly as prepared as I thought.
@Rosie: I mainly studied the cross references by writing down all the questions in the Sword Study. (With their answers, of course.) Other than that, I really didn't study them that much. I really focused on the verses in 1 John.
Ok, thank you. And, you might leave off that last sentence if you lived with me awhile. :P You simply MUST check out that website! :)
Hannah - Yes, when I say test I mean the written. Nationals will be just like locals in that there will be a written test and oral round. I was told that in the semi-finals, they will have them quote verses (as they have every year) as well as quiz questions regarding Ephesians, etc. Now, making it to the top 15 at Nationals is *_a lot_* harder than making it to the top 5 at locals (way harder), and a lot harder than qualifying for Nationals. Because you have *way* more passages to choose from in the orals, and a much harder test. And, Hannah, you are _not_ dumb, nor was your question. :)
@Mindelg: Not really, I just figured there would be at least a few. There are really only two? Huh.
That's great! I finished memorizing 1 John just three days before Locals - it was my first whole book to memorize, so I was quite pleased. :) Well, I memorized most of the cross references for the Greek words, and just became very familiar with the other cross references throughout the whole Sword Study. What about you?
rosie: when you says test, do you mean written? And what do ya mean by quiz questions? I have no clue about nationals at all, sorry. do you mean they only have the written test, which would be quiz questions, for the semi-finals and finals? I know i sound really dumb, that's because I am, sorry.
Do you mean that you think there will be lots of passages from Ephesians in the Junior verses? There's only two.
Yes, I did memorize 1 John, just in time for Locals. But I'm only trying to retain chapters 1 and 4. How many of the cross-references did you memorize?
@Mindelg: That's kind of how I'm feeling -- with 600 verses already (and cross references that I will probably memorize too), memorizing Ephesians is really not an option for me. I'm only really planning on polishing the verses I do have memorized from it, and I'm sure there will be a bunch in that large 600 verse stack sitting downstairs, so...btw, did you end up memorizing all of 1 John? @Hannah: I think the cross references will only be on the test -- and the only time they would have quiz questions is in the semi-finals and possibly the finals. Other than that, you only need to learn them for the test. Oh, and I'll have to check out that website sometime; thanks for sharing!
Same here Mindelg. If I have time, maybe.... Rosie, I found a great website with lots of great cross-references for Bible verses. They do quiz you on cross-references right? Here's the link: http://www.openbible.info/labs/cross-references/search?q=Ephesians+1:1
No, I'd rather focus on memorizing the assigned passages. :P You?
@Hannah and Caleb: I'd say the same here -- 600 verses will be quite a challenge, but honestly, that's one reason I hoped to qualify: the challenge :) But, we'll see how that goes...I do look forward to studying Ephesians though. Do either one of you plan on memorizing it?
Congratulations to you, too! I certainly don't look forward to memorizing my 600 verses, but I'm really excited about studying Ephesians! That, at least, ought to go well…
Well.... I'm not exactly looking forward to it, with school and all that, but... I'm pretty excited!
Congratulations to all of you National qualifiers!!! :D Who is looking forward to memorizing a few hundred verses in 2 1/2 months? ;-)
Went GREAT! YES for the last 2 questions!
SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited! Pretty sure I improved over last year's HORRIBLE ranking of 409. I hope.
How did BB go for you all? Did you enjoy the day?! Looking forward to Wednesday?
Thanks! And Joseph, who was in my same age group (so we were competing against each other) won second!
Oh, wow! Congratulations!! :D
Thank you! I won first prize! :D :D :D :D :D :D
Sounds fun -- wow! You did a great job on the cake! Believe me, that is *way* better than I could do :)
Yup! I can't wait! The fair's tomorrow, too! I'm going to change my picture to the cake I made for it!
I am :) I think.....;-) You?
So, who's ready for Locals?
Yep, that would do it. ;) I hope you do well on the test on contest day! :)
Thanks Christian. Yeah, I don't quite know 1 John word for word, but we keep reading it over and over for family devotions, so I pretty much know it. Sort of. :)
Thanks, Hannah! Good for you, memorizing all of your verses even earlier than I did! :)
No, the Seniors don't have to memorize 1 John, but I know it will be a huge help in taking the test if I do. So I'm going to give it a try. ;)
Good job, Christian! I had memorized all mine a couple weeks ago. Do the Seniors have to memorize 1 John, or are you just for more practice?
I finally memorized all of the verses for the Bible Bee this morning! I'm so excited! :D
LOL Thanks -- Hannah, I think you're just *a bit* more excited than me ;-)
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS A GIRL, IT'S A GIRL, IT'S A GIRL, IT'S A GIRL, IT'S A GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Dad and Mom went to the ultrasound for the baby today, and found out the gender!! (Against mine and Nicolas's will :) Anyway, it's a........GIRL!! I have to say personally, that I never would have thought that I would one day _actually_ have a sister -- but I praise the Lord for His kindness to us in giving us this sweet surprise, and look forward to all of the changes that will take place in the months to come. :)
Missed you guys Sunday, and tonight! See you guys on Sunday......... God willing.
@His Servant: Go ahead and call me by my real name. The whole Mindelg thing is
kind of really weird. You've read some/all of Karthmin's
Tales of Khartur, right? Well, Mindelg means "Great man-lover" in Kharturi. Which is basically equivalent to "Man's best friend". Which is a nickname for a dog. Which is what my real name means in Hebrew.
Anyway, thanks. I try to study pretty hard. :)
@Rosie -- Yeah, I'm not near ready for Locals yet either, but if I keep going, I'll be ready by August 24th. I'm thankful for all the things I've been learning from 1 John!! It's such a great book, and I'm excited to hear what national qualifiers will be studying, after locals! @Mindelg (what is your username all about? Do you mind if I call you by your real name?) Wow! Keep up the great work -- you must be studying really hard! Hmmm...I guess I'm glad locals isn't tomorrow, because I'm not near ready yet :|
Bible Bee's going pretty well for me. I'm on week 9, day 4 in the Sword Study. I think that if locals were tomorrow, I'd probably be in the top 120. But they're not tomorrow...
Hi, Bethany! BB is going quite well so far...I'm very grateful for that. I was planning on getting really far ahead once we got back from our trip, but, that didn't happen. So, I'm only on Week 6...but I love the things that I have been learning from it! And, I don't think I'm prepared enough that I could do well at Locals right now (obviously) - but, if I stick to my schedule, I should be ready by the end of the 12 weeks :) You?
How's Bible Bee going for y'all? What Week/Day of the Sword Study are you on? Feeling some what prepared for Locals? =)
Hannah: Sure. See you tonight.
Rose I asked Calvin if I can play the butterfly waltz and He said I yes can you copy it for me and give in to me tomorrow ?
Hannah
Using ESV? Then these are for you!!!
Yes, happy late birthday!!!
@Rosie: I'm thinking about memorizing 1 John, and then going on to some (or all) of the cross-references. Or I might go back and forth. We'll see. :)
@Hannah & Dilia: Oh, yeah, happy birthday!
Happy 14th Birthday, Hannah and Dilia!!
@Mindelg: Sorry, I didn't answer your question. Looking at the date, we left the day I made that comment. :) Anyway, I plan on memorizing as many cross references as I can, and I might memorize large sections of 1 John. I don't know how far I'll get with 1 John though, because with all of the repeated phrases, I might get quite confused...what about you? @In Christ Alone: Oh, I'm sorry you were sick, Rebekah. Glad to hear you're doing better though. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow, I've missed everyone!
Praise God!!!! See Ya guys tomorrow.
Bible Bee is Hannah, and scary lion is Joseph. BTW, I'm Hannah also. I just have a Bible Bee account and normal account.
Mind my asking but who is Scary lion and Bible Bee?
Get well soon, In Christ alone!
@ In Christ Alone: Good! Please hurry up and get better - today, if possible. :)
@ His Servant: I'm not sure when, but I hope to have them finished somewhere around the third week.
Not today still pretty sick. But I'm pretty sure..almost positive I will be at Prayer meeting!!
I missed you, too! Hopefully you can come this evening. Get better soon!
~ Παιδί του Θεού (Hannah)
P.S. How are you feeling?
I miss all of my church friends!!! I'm stuck here at my house while you guys are worshiping
Congratulations!! And I just now finished, too!
Are you going to memorize 1 John and all the cross-references in the Sword Study? I'm considering doing that...
I'm done!! Just finished about 30 min. ago. :)
Bethany -- I was thinking I would *possibly* finish today, but it looks like I'll finish tomorrow. Either way, I'm excited! :)
I plan on finishing the verses on maybe Thursday or Friday. I'm already halfway, so I think it'll work...
Glad you all got your boxes! We got ours as well, and I'm SO excited about studying again! When are y'all planning on finishing your verses? I hope to on Wednesday, because I already knew a good portion of them :) See you Saturday Rosie, Christian and Nicolas, Lord willing!!!
@Rosie: I wouldn't say that I was surprised, but I was thinking it might be 1 Thessalonians as well. My second guess would have been 1 John, though. :)
@Hannah: So you guys (oops - I mean gals) are all competing, right??
Were you suprised about the book they chose? I had been leaning more toward it being 1 Thessalonians, so I was a bit suprised. But still just as excited!
I already said it on
MemVerse, but I'll say it here, too - we got our box a few hours ago! Quite needless to say, I'm really excited! :D
Bethany -- You already know, but I'll just say it on here anyway: WE GOT OUR BOX!! :D :D "So excited" is an understatement! :)
You'll be able to get this year's verses on June 1st by clicking the Bible Bee Shield at the top right of the website. There's also a getting started video there with lot's of info on using Scripture Typer for Bible Bee verses. This year, only Bible Bee verses will be counted in the group rankings. All of our stats will reset on June 1st and only this years verses will be counted. Happy Memorizing!
Let us know when you get your box...ours is supposed to arrive on Friday. Can't wait to start studying! (And seeing you guys again!!!!! =D)
Bible Bee starts this Saturday -- 6 more days!! So excited! :D But since it'll be a Saturday, I'm wondering if not everyone will get their box on the 1st.....
hey guys u should come over to my church we got candy!!!!!!!!!!!!! the church is Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church
@Nathan -- Very nice music blog! I enjoyed looking around :) I also enjoyed listening to your recordings, you play nicely! Maybe after my surgery and I'm feeling better, I'll print off some of your music to learn :)
Thanks! But I have to say,
Weebly makes some things pretty easy.
Wow. I just checked out that site of yours that you gave a link to, Caleb, and it is great! It doesn't have a whole lot on it yet, but it has a great design! It seemed like an authentic website, not just one thrown together by some kid. :D Good job!
*Rolls eyes* I made one too - (for a Digital Learning class,
not music) - so just in case anyone would be so goofy as to want to see a practically purposeless website, the link is
here.
@Everyone, for that matter, please see the comment below this if you love music!!
Hi Bethany! I have created a website for my hymns; I know you'll want to look at it. (I don't have any videos of myself playing them, but there is one recording of me singing and I hope to put another on soon.) You can get the sheet music for them, and there are some other features as well. It's still under development but does have 5 different hymns on it. Here's the link:
mustardseedfaithmusic.weebly.com. Once you get to know the site a bit, I have some pages for comments on peoples' opinion.
Bethany~ You're very welcome, Bethany. Thank you for praying for me as well; that is a huge blessing and encouragment - I have definitely needed it these past few days...I'm always keeping you in my prayers.
Thanks for the prayers, Rosie and Caleb. I truly appreciate it -- how desperately I need Christ more! And though I might not always be pressing the "I prayed" button, I do pray for you :)
If 'stepped on the gas' means I prayed for a lot of people yesterday, then yes, I did.
Well, yeah, of course I knew. But anyway, it looks like you stepped on the gas a little yesterday, right?
*face palm* I was being sarcastic and you know it.
Yes…I was… After all, you told me to do it!
Mindelg Turam- You do that. :P OCTSRIS- You're welcome.
WOW!!! Thanks for all your prayers!!! :-P Yeah, I saw that problem too, but then the page re-loaded and it went away.
Yeah. I'll have to start praying for you all everyday again to catch up to you.
It's the only thing that makes sense. I think you probably have prayed for people that many times, because you're name is the one that appears most on my prayer registry. And Caleb is second place with over 1300 prayers, and he's got the next most amount of prayers on my profile.
MyHopeIsBuilt~ Happy 11th birthday, Joanna!! :D
Christian- Well, if that's true, then I've prayed for others over 1400 times....that doesn't seem to make sense.
Sure... a likely story... ;)
I wonder if it's intentional, or if they're just switching things around and didn't notice that they had enabled that.
No. I can only dream of being that good.
Actually, the number of prayers people have prayed for us used to be in the column on the left displaying the users, while on the message wall it showed (and shows) how many times we'd prayed for other people. I'm not quite sure why, but I'm getting sick of all this change. (Which I did not initiate.)
Caleb, are you playing with the source code for this page? :P
Last week, our avatars were displaying a number, which seemed to be the amount of times people had prayed for us. Now, when I come on today, the number would seem to be the amount of times we have prayed for others. (That's my best guess, because yours was over 1300, and you're the one who was praying for everyone every day for a good amount of time.)
Hmmm… Maybe this one will be a pattern breaker!
Well, according to the pattern, that's what it should be... :D
I did hear something to that effect… Congratulations! I suppose you're all hoping for another boy, right? Just kidding…
For those of you who didn't hear yet, we just learned on Friday that our mom is pregnant!!! My eighth sibling!!! :D :D :D
Happy 19th birthday Rachel hope you have a wonderful day !!!!!!!!!!!
Happy 19th birthday, Rachel!! May you have blessed day! :-) Love, Rosie
Even when I don't click the button I'm still praying!
Where's the forum for "chatting"?
:) Yours are too. I have 200 as of yesterday!
Hey, I'm just glad that you're being so consistent in praying for us. It's a great encouragement. :)
No, I hadn't seen the forums yet. I'm checking them out now. Thanks for letting me know! :D
Alright everyone—I'm going to stop clicking the "I prayed" button on your profile everyday. It's hard to keep up with. (You may have noticed I didn't do it yesterday…) So I'll still try to pray for you everyday, (or almost everyday) but I won't typically bother clicking the button. Just so you know…
By the way, have any of you seen the new
Forums? They have one for chatting! And a Bright Lights one, and some for ideas for Scripture Typer, and…
Funny new picture, Karthmin... :D What is it supposed to be? :)
Actually....I just found out this morning that we will not be going to prayer meeting tonight. :( Mom learned that this virus can be spread to others even two weeks after you feel well again. So I guess you all won't be seeing our family until this coming Lord's Day (hopefully). :/
Bethany~ Thank you! I really enjoyed talking to you this afternoon! :) Rachel~ Thank you as well! I'm really looking forward to being at prayer meeting tomorrow (Lord willing)- I missed being at church on Sunday and last Wednesday. :-)
Happy 13th Birthday Rosie!!
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Love,
Rachel
So thankful y'all are better, Christian! I was praying for y'all! || HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROSIE! I hope you have a wonderful day - I'm going to call you sometime today, when I have some free time :)

Yeah, so, I think I personally got the least painful case of the stomach flu. Everyone else threw up multiple times. But, I think it must have been only the 24-hour bug, because everyone in our family is back to feeling normal now.
Thank you, everyone who prayed! :)
Okay, yeah that makes much more sense- and that's completely fine with me. I look forward to it either way :)
Rosie - My dad explained it all to me a minute ago about our phone situation. On Saturday, I can call anyone (long-distance or local) for free (and without using our minutes). Though, anytime during the weekdays, we use our minutes, which costs money. I was thinking that this phone call, probably should stay short...just a "Happy Birthday" phone call, so to speak. If all that doesn't make sense, I can explain to you on the call. I can talk for a long time, only on Saturdays. Hope that okay with you!
Bethany- Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Do you think it would be better if I called you since we don't have to pay for long distance phone calls? 'Cause I definitely would not want to be the cause of your family having to pay extra money, and, I don't know how we would keep from talking too long! :D
Yeah, I understand...that's okay. Just so that I can see/meet y'all at Nationals :)
Well, we only came out the last time because my dad had mandatory training to do down there. And that only happens every couple of years or so. I'm not sure if we would just spontaneously decide to head down there... Maybe, possibly it could happen in the summer? :)
Do you think there's ANY possibility you three and your dad might come up?! If so, let us know! I'd love to see you again :) I'm looking forward to talking with you next week as well, though I can't talk for long, because we have to pay for minutes on the weekday...
True, but I kind of doubt that we would take our entire family on a trip to MO; now if we were to convince our parents, I'm sure only a few of us would go (and it would probably only be us three oldest). :/ Yeah, I guess we'll have to stick with phone calling for now- and....I'm so looking forward to your call next week! :)
Rosie - As I see it, I think you would have more success of convincing your parents, because your dad used to live here. And, since we've never even been to OH before, our going up there probably won't happen. Remember - you're always welcome to our home!! But, I guess that until we can devise some plan of seeing each other, we'll have to keep up our phone calling :)
Bethany- Well then, we'll just have to try to come up with some reason for why we should take a trip to MO, and then try to convince our parents (as if :)
Who knows? Don't give up!
Yes, it would be great to see y'all at Nationals - I and a few friends of mine were trying to come up with some way to convince our parents that we should take a trip to OH (before Nationals), because we have so many friends up there...though, it looks kind of bleak that it will ever work out :(
His Servant- It would be so wonderful to see you and your family again at Nationals! :) AllIHaveIsChrist- This is kinda off-topic, but happy birthday!
Great, 'cause I want to meet y'all at Nationals :)
If I do Bible Bee again this year, I am going to OBSESS!!!
Well, I guess, I just couldn't imagine going a whole summer watching my siblings doing the Bible Bee and myself not--just because they no longer had my version available! :) And yes, I suppose making it to the semis last time gave me a little extra incentive; it was VERY exciting. :D
That would totally be SO fun! I don't think we could all be in Finals together, but we could all be in Semi's together! Yeah, last year, after prelims, I knew I wasn't going to advance...but hopefully this year will be different! 'Twould be fun to have y'all, us, Minica's, Water's and Mieczkowski's advance :D :D|| Nicolas - what made you want to do Bible Bee again? Making it to semi-finals? I can't even imagine how fun that was!
Yes, it'd be even more fun with even more people we know up there! :) And maybe there would be even more people who tied so that your sister and Matthew Minica were in Finals as well! :D And Jimmy Waters, and some of the Mieczkowskis... ;)
Wait a second...I've tried to make it to Finals as well, what about me?! Maybe, we'll have 6 Finalists this year -- remember there were 7 in the Juniors in 2011 :) But, that would be very funny if you 5 did make it to Finals this year.... :D
Yes, that would be fun--Martin, Christian, Nathan, Justin and I all competing in the Senior finals! :D
Hopefully so. Wouldn't it be great if we ALL made it? That is, until we got to the finals and had to compete against one another...
I think there's a good possibility that they will. Mr. Fisher seemed very interested in it when he was asking me about it back in November when Nicolas and I were heading off to Nationals. With 5 other families in our church doing it, I'm going to guess that they'll cave in. ;)
Thanks Christian - I appreciate the prayers. || BTW, do you think the Fisher's will do the BB? And yes, I'd love to meet y'all at this year's Nationals - that would be SO much fun! :D
What?! Bethany is here?! You must leave now! No one who is not in our group can comment on our message wall.

What ever gave you the impression that we wouldn't want you around here? ;) You're welcome for the prayers; you're on my friends list, so when I pray for the others, I often click on your name as well. :)
And, yes, I too hope that you'll get to meet all of these people sometime. Hopefully many of them will make it to Nationals, and then you'll get to meet their families!
@All - (I know that I'm not in this group, so I'll leave in a minute...) Thank you all for your prayers for me as well! I appreciate it that even though I don't personally know all of you that you would still pray for me - thanks! I'm looking forward to the day when I can meet my other brothers and sisters in Christ from this group :)
You're all very welcome. Thank you all as well, I know you've been praying and it means so much to me!
Dilia~Your welcome, and thank you for your prayers-it is a huge encouragment to me! And thank you everyone for your prayers for me as well.....:)
Sure. Just make sure you don't reload a page where you made an online purchase! :P
I think I did reload the page after posting it. I always wondered what made my comments double, when I didn't do it on purpose... Thanks!
@Dilia: Wow…that's more than me! You're welcome, sister!
@Christian: You're welcome too! By the way—did you reload the page after posting your comment?
And thanks to everyone for praying for me, too. God bless you all!
You're welcome. :D Thank you everyone for your prayers for me as well. :)
I have 163 prayers for me..............thanks guys !!!!!
Hey, I think I just got my highest record... 1065 wpm on John 11:35! :D
Oh. Duh. Yeah, I know what CSS is. I just wasn't studying your code carefully enough. I think the body and head tags threw me off. Now I understand what you did, and now I see how it's possible. Cool!
That looks like a foreign language to me... I don't know if I'm even going to try to read it! :P But I'm sure Christian will... :)
It's just CSS—or don't you know how that works? I'll try to explain. CSS means Cascading Style Sheet. It can either be a separate file referred to in <head> (e.g. <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all" href="stylesheet.css"/>, or else it can be in the HTML document itself, under <head>. Whether in a separate file or not, it has entries like this:
First, a code is listed, such as 'body' or 'b', or something you made up yourself, such as 'x'. No < or > marks are placed around this. Now add styles just like you would inside a code, but surround them with { and ;}. For instance, if you want all bold text to be in papyrus, you could either write <b style="font-family:papyrus">text</b> every time you want to have bold text, (instead of just <b>) or you could specify this in the stylesheet with this entry:
b {font-family:papyrus;}
Now the browser knows that whenever you have the code <b> around text, you want that text to not only be bold, but you want it to be in the papyrus font. The first parts of your document would then look something like this:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=UTF-8"/>
<title>Chapter 1</title>
<style>
b {font-family:papyrus;}
</style></head><body>
Text…
I apologize if this "explanation" wasn't confusing I mean clear enough. *Sighs*
Hmm... I still don't entirely see how that works, but I have a better idea now. ;)
Here's the code I put in my comment:
</body><head>
<style>
z {font-family:papyrus}
y {text-decoration:overline;}
x {text-decoration:blink;}
</style>
</head><body>
But it looks like the <body> and <head> codes weren't necessary. Cool, huh? So no, I didn't hack in—I'm still working on that!
Okay, there's two new codes: <v> makes your name green, <w> makes it pink.
What did you do, hack into the ScriptureTyper system and add those code capabilities? :P
