new to learn memory - long passages
Happy late new year everyone!👋
Merry Christmas everyone!
Hope everyone is doing okay. It has been awhile.
That’s awesome, Addie!! So much of God’s precious Word is in you. I’m reminded of Joshua 1:8 - “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[a] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Blessings to you!
I'm doing Bible Quizzing too, and it helps a lot. We memorize scripture and quiz on it. It really sticks with you because it is competitive and like a game.
That's a great chapter to start in the NT. I haven't memorized that one yet, I'm currently working to see if, and how far I can memorize the whole book of Acts. So far I've memorized Matthew chapter 1, James chapter 1 through 4, and Acts chapter 1.
@Addie. Hello Addie! In the O.T. I have committed to memory the wonderful Psalms 91 and 103. I have just begun John 15. Verse by verse I’ll get there and it forces me to think about the meaning and application for my life when I do one verse at a time. When my husband recently went on to be with Jesus, I was so very thankful for His Word that sustained me. As I would take my morning walks, what a blessing to recite Psalm 103 out loud and of course Psalm 23.
@Overcomer, what chapter in the New Testament are you thinking of memorizing? I've memorized a few chapters in the New Testament, I could suggest a few easy ones.
praying for you Alistair. I agree with what others have said. it’s so encouraging to see my brothers and sisters memorize scripture like this,
You are an encouragement, to see you memorize entire books. May the Holy Spirit who lives within you give the focus needed right now to instill His Word in your heart and mind. I am in my 60’s when I started getting serious on memorizing scripture and what a tremendous blessing it has been. I hope to try to memorize a New Testament chapter for the first time. Blessings!
Y'all are doing an AWESOME job memorizing! It's so encouraging to see when I can get on here now and then!
If y'all could be praying for me, I am going to do some military style training at a Christian facility in 3 weeks, and I need to finish memorizing the book of 1 Peter before then. If y'all could pray that I could have a mind that is disciplined and focused for memorizing that would be much appreciated!
I did the whole book of James in NIV
I did James in NASB years before I started Bible Quizzing... Then I had to memorize it again but in NIV
In what version of the Bible did you memorize James?
I'm going to try memorizing the book of Acts
Noah, what a blessing to have so many verses memorized. great way to have Gods word in your heart!
I’m showing my verse progress now.
I finished James chapter 3
The quiz is in 1 hour and 50 mins!
@Eli, you should memorize Proverbs 20:5
Eli, I added your full chapters in and will add the rest when I can.do you want the partial chapters together in a collection?
Sorry I couldn't be at the quiz😞 I'm was having a very busy week.
Dante, I added your chapters but the translation might need to be adjusted. I took a little creative liberty with the name for the collection. I don’t know if the verses are the way you wanted. let me know
You can call it chapters of psalms
I added 1 of Eli’s Chapters so far just as a test.
Dante, for your chapters, I think you want one group that has all those chapters together? I’ll try my best. what should I call that collection of chapters? is there a particular theme that ties those scriptures together?
I figured out how to add chapters and I’ll try to add them all today between calls at work if we’re hopefully slow.
it’s ok same time next Monday
though I didn’t get any points 😔
okay so we are doing it about daniel,James, genesis
The quiz starts in 1 hour! 😃😄😁😁😆😎
okay I’ll try to be there soon 🔜 thanks 😊
hello I didn’t know this team was active.?
@Alistair or @AidenGale pls can you Add Psalm 118, 145 and psalm 91 with the verses all together. thanks
@Estelle, thanks. There will be another one on Monday 11th April. I am hosting it in: The Bible Quizmaster group!
and I think Eli has more than that so hopefully we get that fixed
wow! Eli and Aiden are in the 50 verses club and Dante is over 100!
Dante, I hope you had a good Bible quiz!
@alistair, sure! I’ll give it a whirl!
But he's keeping his verses current! :)
AidenGale has not been online much...
I think I figured out how to sync with what was there.
@Estelle. I'm not too sure about the music part, but since I do bible quizzing I use the Romans and James ACME listening cd. It just reads it to me
Great! I use the online version, and for some reason it's giving me trouble with adding those verses. @Estelle: would you mind being an admin since you use the app? You might be able to add the verses for EliQureshi then...
I am not sure if this helps anyone but @Alistair you asked for me to share my verses so you can add them to the group, here they are: psalm 1, 4, 8, 23, 91. Matt 5:3-16, 28:18-20, John 1, 3, 14, 15. Romans 1:14-17, 12:1-3. Hebrews 12:1-4, James 1. I believe you have some of these but I don’t know why it isn’t connected. I am using the app called Bible Memory, not scripture Typer. I am in Bible Memory app right now sending this comment. if anyone has any tips and we don’t clog up the comments, this is my email. equreshi01@gmail.com.
does anyone know of some good music that is word for word scripture in the translation they are memorizing?
listening to scripture on the dwell app gives me good ideas for cadence I can use when I recite scripture. eventually I’d like to re-record my own voice reciting Romans in this app. I feel like it’s easy to memorize when I have a good rhythm in saying the scripture.
wanted to add to my other comment I made earlier. I’m really learning a lot from you guys. I appreciate all the tips you’ve been sharing. I don’t really have anyone keeping me accountable to this in real life, so you guys are it! gonna try to listen to Romans at high speed right now, based on EliQ’s tips. I use the Dwell app for listening to scripture.
@alistair, I use the app. is there a difference online?
@Estelle: Do you use the app or do you do you memorize online?
@Dante: WOW! You're doing amazing! When you're done with the current verses we'll have to add more! xD
Way to go, Dante. God’s Word will not return void. what a blessing!
I’m trying to Memorize all the verses in this group!
Dante wow! I’m so encouraged by your verses count!
@eliQ, I’m going to try your technique of speeding up the recording!
to be honest with you all, the reason I have been being up the progress and getting verses in the board is really to encourage those who seem to be here just to chat about off topic subjects. I have no idea if they are actually using the group to memorize scripture or for some other reason that is contrary to the group. all I know is that they aren’t excluded from God’s love and need for God’s word. on the other hand, I did reach out to the website and reported that some people appear to be trolling but I haven’t had a chance to see their response yet.
Hi EliQ. that’s very encouraging. thanks for sharing your progress! I can share detailed steps if you like but it might not work for you unless you’re using the scripture typer
@Slouch. Acutually it says near the end "There are plenty of other groups for chatting"
You should take Alistair serious
You guys just changed the subject again.🤦♀️
And also, please try to keep the chat on topic related to memorizing... It kind of clogs up the chat with things that are distracting otherwise... Thank you!!
Hey y'all! It's great to see the time y'all are putting into memorizoing!
@ EliQureshi: You need to make sure that the verses you're memorizing are on the list for this group. If they're not, AidenGale or I can add them if that is what you would like!!
Keep it up!! :)
@Estelle I have been using this app and going over my verses regularly. I am not sure how to sync it with the verses in this group to get credit. I’m at about 150 verses. that is about half in psalms and half in New Testament. mainly focusing on specific passages, like Gods promises, His character, verses describing the gospel, etc. When it comes to the 30 day shred, I do construction work, so I am able to listen to it and even speed it up by 1.25 or 1.5. the purpose is to go through it quickly in order to have a birds eye view at the entire story spelled out. I think what you do by going through the Bible in a year looking for different highlights is great and you shouldn’t stop.
..."if you join for the sake of chatting please DO NOT JOIN!..."
You should read the end of the group description.
This group used to be about memorizing verses. Now everybody is just talking 😔 With the occasional prayer request.
Ik same with me at first, then I used the website and it was fine
I can't, it keeps logging me out of the app when I try to search it up
@Estelle, we are tied 🤩 but not anymore 😆
me and Dante are tied with our verses count! Twinsies! 🤩🤩
Districts in Bible quizzing*
Is that a real thing? Because I was not joking about quizzing. You guys are so ridiculous!🤦😆😋😶
the district of Bible quizzing I am in
@Slouch. No, ORPAC does not stand for Ohio's Racing Party At Catenville. It does stand for Oregon Pacific
@Estelle. You're welcome! It doesn't make a difference it would be fun to know though😉
@Estelle. I think it was because the message was too long. I tried that and I had to retype half of it again
(points are involved, if two people are online at the same time 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯)
Everyone I have a group called, The Bible Questioner. a questioner (me) will ask questions about the bible anytime you want to, if there are two people online at the Same time I will ask questions and the first one to post the exclamation mark will answer first...
I tried to share what God has done in my life through meditating on and memorizing scripture but it didn’t post! I’ll try again later
slouch, would love to see your name on the board. Go for it, buddy!
would love to hear any testimonies on how Bible memorization has impacted our lives. I think it will be encouraging to hear, especially since memorization requires commitment and work.
Shout out to those with verses on the board today: Aiden, Overcomer, Dante, and Anna.
@noah, thanks for the input on sticking with ESV.
@Addie, thanks for thinking of me. I don’t remember which organization ran my Bible Quiz. Does that make a difference?
Everyone you are invited to join my new group called BIBLE QUIZ.
There will be a time during the day that we all compete (only if you want to) against each other with our bible knowledge.
come to my girrrrding class at 4:30 today
girrrrrrrrrrd up your minds people
Hi everyone, I just joined. ☺
Yup, lots of fun to re-memorize the whole thing😆🙄
@Noah. When I was younger I memorized some of the book of James in NASB, then when I joined bible quizzing, they used a different version so I had to re-memorize it in NIV
I am in the Pro /A division this year and am a verses person, I have two memory people who try to memorize everything in Romans and James. But for me I try to get all of the required memory verses perfect!😁
@Overcomer. You're welcome! 😁
Estelle, sorry I haven’t been on in a while but I heard you are thinking of switching to NASB. I wouldn’t switch from ESV if I were you.
Thankyou Addie for the tip on how to remember the beginning of verses that are the same. This is where I have the most errors.
@Estelle, can you join the Nazarene Youth Bible Quizzing group? The group is for graduating kid quizzers, teen quizzers, and anyone who is helping or has been in Nazerene Bible Quizzing before.
did you know that oranges are just french pears
Addie, those are awesome tips! I’m definitely going to use some of those. I’m a visual learner too
Sometime I like to type and list all of the verses out. Like if you had these verses that began with "For it is..." and "For the wages..." and "For the Son...".
I would list them out like this: "For the wages" then, "For the Son" then, "For it is". I will underline all of the " For"s and the two "the"s. I will underline the words that are the same until the difference, and will put a / mark where I need (/would like to) jump so I can finish it.
@Estelle. What I do to memorize verses for bible quizzing is to use this app, use the flash cards, listen to it, and read it in my scripture portion. Reading it physically helps because I am a visual learner, and you can see what page the verse is on (some quizzers say they can imagine it and flip through it as if it were physically there). My sister is a auditory learner and this is her first year in quizzing. She doesn't memorize as many verses as I have, buy I think her method is to: Listen to herself say it correctly while recording it, listen to the recording, say it out loud over and over again until she gets it right. Another option that helps is to say it out loud to a friend, your dog, or (as someone suggested) God. A hard thing for me is to match up the verses with the reference, and to clarify if it is singular or plural (like themself or themselves).
Join my group Bluefin Tunas for Jesus
Addie, what’s you memorize technique?
I started in 2019 during Hebrews and 1 & 2 Peter. A friend invited me and I'm so glad they did!
Addie, I did Bible Quiz years ago. that’s awesome you’re doing that! I wish I had the opportunity to stick with it longer.
@Tom Holland that is true... why are you saying that now?😉
God's love is so real you don't have to fake it
Srry I forgot to say my group name😂 it is called “Hard times”
@Tom Holland for the last time what do you mean.🤨
@hello Noah, I had a little conversation with Slouch but I deleted all of my messages on the website, sorry😐
what if we're all the same in different kinds of ways
Admin can you please delete all of these messages 👍
if anyone wants comforting and uplifting ⬆️⬆️ verses to memorize feel free to join my group 😊
only people that are serious about God would want to gird up their minds
I just started using this app 5 days ago
it happens to literally everyone if it doesn't happen to you you're a hacker
that doesn’t happen with me
there are 18 verses in James 3 😉
I tried putting them in the "uncategorized" since I had no verses there. But they won't delete if they are that group
Does anyone know how to delete several verses at once? I was trying to import chapter three of James. But because I didn't know how many verses were in James 3, I typed in verses 1-99 and pressed "import verse text". Then it asked me if I wanted them separated individually for review. I pressed yes and now I have 99 "verses" that all say "NO_INTERNET".
This is my third year in Bible quizzing, last year I went to regionals during the book of Matthew. This year we are going to fly to Ohio to go to Q. Q is a bible quizzing event where anyone can join, not just the quizzers who qualify.
Estelle, my memorization has been going great! Have you heard of Nazarene bible quizzing? I am currently doing it and we are doing the books of Romans and James NIV this year. I have memorized chapter 1 of Romans and James chapter 1 & 2.
Dante, nice work with getting some verses current already 🌟🌟🌟
Wow! the verses that you guys have here in Prayer teaching are almost all of the verses I have in my group “Hard times”
@AidenGale sometimes I memorise passages like 1 Corinthians 1:3-7 and recite them in my prayers.
Oh and thank you for the welcome, it is a honour to be in this group :-)
Hello I want to do 1 Peter 2 :)
overcomer, looks like you have some verses under your belt. ✨🌟💫how are things going for you?
warrior, hi there! welcome! do you know what you’ll be memorizing?
Noah, awesome. make sure you have the chapters turned on in this group so we can see your progress. I think it helps with your badges too.
hello everyone I just joined:)
I’m ok with the third chapter of James.
addie, I’m going slow with Romans and right now I’m not super happy with how well things are sticking. I might have to change up my strategy. in the app you can record your own voice reciting the scripture so I think I might utilize that more, listen to my own voice saying the scripture in my own voice and cadence, and then recite the scriptures out loud. I’m hoping to find someone local who can be a buddy so we can recite to each other and keep each other accountable. I’m only 9ish verses in. I started with chapter 5 in ESV. I’m debating about switching to NASB because my church does precept studies using NASB. I’ve mentioned before that I don’t know if I will be confusing myself with the different versions. but in the meantime, as long as I’m active in the Word, that’s what counts most. I am open to any thoughts you have. how is your memorization going?
to addie and slouch, if you select the passage to memorize it should give you the option to change the version. you don’t need to use the default version. I’ve been using ESV even though the default is kjv and I’m still getting credit for being current. I think the app takes some getting used to.
Haha I noticed something... the verses that are in this group are in a different version then to those I have memorized 1 Peter, James, and Matthew!
I have studying the whole book of Romans and three chapters into James for bible quizzing... How is your memorizing going?
And what chapters currently?
Estelle, what version are you doing Romans?
@noah, that’s wonderful news! praise God! continued prayers for his recovery 🥰
My friend’s brain tumour was removed and he’s recovering😄 Praise the Lord!
I think even just having one verse current is a great start!
Eli and slouch, do you folks use the app for memorization? it doesn’t look like the app has given you credit for any verses in this group. you can ask for whatever passage you’re memorizing to be added to the group. I think it’s a great way for us to hold each other accountable.
slouch, I would love to have 4 hours a day just to read! what do you folks find is the benefit of the 30 day shred? I’m happy to get through the Bible in a year, and I like to have a focus I’m looking for, so this year, I’m focusing on attributes and behaviors of God, what the Bible says about emotions, and the Trinity. But for Bible memorization, this is my first time attempting to memorize a large passage but when I renewed my faith, Romans was the book I kept feeling nudged toward. I’m doing a Precept study on it right now and I have a stand alone book of Romans that I can just keep handy and read through. I think it would be beneficial to me if I read through the whole book or even chapter more often. I decided to start with chapter 5, then I’ll do 8, then go back to 1. I’m doing ESV but I’m not sure what I think of that now since my Precept study is NASB, and I anticipate doing these studies repeatedly.
Eli, not sure what you mean by “whole chapter in one?” In the app when I’m reviewing verses, I usually choose the option, “combine all verses.” Not sure if that’s what you mean?
also, for those who memorize, we focus on sections of the word at a time, and occasionally it is good to get a whole narrative perspective. so if anyone uses YouVersion bible app, there is a great plan called 30 day shred, that is the whole bible in 30 days. good to do once on a while. just throwing that out there. blessings
not sure if it helps anyone else, but when memorizing a whole chapter I prefer to have the whole chapter in one, rather than broken up verse by verse. like you have James in chapters. not sure if the admin is able to do that here.
Question: does anyone have an opinion on memorizing scripture from different passages simultaneously if I’m just starting out? psalm 91 is really speaking to me and I don’t know if it will confuse my brain to try to memorize it while also trying to memorize Romans 5. Any thoughts?
@noah, that’s awesome! I’m looking forward to finishing a whole chapter! it looks like you’re not getting credit for mastering the verses in the app. are you using a different method or tool for memorizing and retaining the verses?
@noah, sweet! are you starting with chapter 1?
I’m memorizing James.(The Proverbs of the Old Testament)
@Alistair, praying for you. keep the faith!
Due to some pretty tough things going on in my area right now, I won't be able to be on here to much... I'm so sorry. I made AidenGale an admin if y'all need anything! Sorry for the sudden change! Praying that y'all keep memorizing and hiding the Word in your hearts!
how is Alistair doing? we miss you, buddy!
Aiden, yes, when I read the Bible, it is my primary way I engage with God, and the scripture is full of natural prayer prompts for me. I don’t necessarily repeat the examples of prayer because those are not organic to me, but I do reflect on how those prayers can influence my own fellowship with God. But if I read something convicting I stop and for the Lords help or if I feel moved by reading what Jesus did for us, I thank him. I’m not just reading, I’m having a dialogue.
My friend has a tumour in his brain and he’s had to go in for surgery because of it and it could possibly be cancer. Pls pray for him🙁
Gotta question for y’all: do you ever pray the Bible? Like pray the prayers of Scripture or thru Scripture?
Oh cool Noah! That one’s pretty recent!
The LSB is the Legacy Standard Bible.
okay I will not put Spanish-language.
Okay please let’s not talk about things like that. I removed your comment because it was taking up a lot of space and this message wall is for discussing scripture, prayer requests, asking questions only
Oh cool, what is the LSB?
Since everybody is talking about bible versions, I personally like ESV, NASB, and LSB
how is the memorization going? also do you folks record yourself verbally saying the verses out loud? I decided to do this for Chapter 6 since that’s what I’m studying right now. even though I’m not memorizing that chapter yet, it felt very powerful. 🥰✝️💪📖
And I will be praying for you as well! :)
@ Estelle That seems tricky indeed. I had a similar issue with memorizing Colossians in NASB or ESV. I did ESV due to being able to be checked off by my friends who were doing it with me… Hope that’s helpful!
I actually did consider nkjv because my church uses that but I had already started with ESV after praying about it some time ago
@anon have you ever been in this situation with scripture memorization?
not necessarily looking for “which translation is best” if that makes sense.
@anon, I do use the kjv for other purposes but I’m looking for insight regarding memorization, and how’s it impacted by using multiple translations, not necessarily what
i think you should use NKJV or KJV
I have a dilemma. Not sure if you’ve experienced this before. I’m currently attending an in-depth study of Romans at church. you really get involved with the text, reading passages repeatedly and dissecting it in different ways. my problem is they are using the NASB version and I’ve started my memorization with ESV. I’m not sure if I should buy the ESV version of the study and deal with being slightly on a different page with them when we discuss keywords? Or if I stick with NASB for the study, will it confuse my memorization? Any thoughts?
I am trying to work on Romans 5. Do you mind adding that? Please also pray for my personal walk- that I prioritize my time with Jesus and develop more spiritual discipline in scripture memorization and meditation. I would like to memorize the book of Romans for the reason you stated in the group description. I’m starting with chapter 5, then I’ll skip to 8, because those are special chapters to me. I’ve start
thank you for all your hard work!!😀😀
will someone add psalm 103:10-12?
Certainly, I will be praying for you!
Will be praying. Really for me the same, I need to prioritize my personal walk with Jesus very much so. thank you sir!
Please pray that I would continue to prioritize my personal walk with Christ and that I would live out the commands of Christ!
Grace to you as well! Currently, we are the only to here right now. Lord-willing, we can get a group together!
Grace to you Ailstair! Thank you for being someone encouraging others to memorize verses and not just post/talk. I had two quick questions: Are their only two members of this group currently? And how may I be praying for you today?
And he said to them “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature mark 16:15
Feel free about joining this group and posting things that are according to the purpose/cause of memorizing!
I think it would be good of you did that too! xD
I understand your position, but I currently don’t have too much time to share what I believe, I’d prefer to spend my time on here memorizing…
debate was the wrong word I just wanted to hear your believes
I do, but I don’t think it necessary to debate over such things in this type of environment. Maybe take to mind the verse I posted…
do you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins!
good job !!you still never answered about what you believe !
"Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers." ~ 2Timothy 2:14
What are your believes about the sabbath? Saturday or Sunday?
Tim do you believe for by grace you have been saved through faith not of yourself it is a gift of God not of works lest any man shall boast Ephesians 2 8-9
opps forget the first sentence
Hi David how are you doing? I was wondering because you said that you didn’t go to public school…. One good verse is the 9th commandments thou shall not lie. Another one is john 14:15 if you love me keep my commandments
@ Anonymousey: This isn’t a place to just chat. If you are interested in memorizing God’s word, feel free to join this group instead of bouncing in and out. It’s pretty distracting for those who are trying to use this for memorization. Thanks!!
Haven, do you go to public school?
If you want any chapters added, just tag me a message!
