Starting with the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer in both English and Greek, we will proceed to memorize verses that St. Cyprian of Carthage suggested to his spiritual son, Quirinus. To quote St. Cyprian:

“I have collected certain maxims of the Lord, and divine teachings, which may be easy and useful to the readers, because a few things digested into a small space are both quickly read through, and are [able to be] frequently repeated.”

This compilation of verses are intended to be a succinct course of sacred reading, so that your mind, surrendered to God, might be instructed with a wholesome and concise treatment of heavenly precepts for the nourishment of your memory.

The translation used for the New Testament is the Eastern Orthodox Bible, while the Old Testament is translated from the Septuagint using Metropolitan Isaiah’s* translations where found. Where Metropolitan Isaiah’s translations are not to be found, the translation will be based on the Lexham English Septuagint or Michael Asser’s translation of the Septuagint but modernized (no thee’s or thou’s). All verse references from the Old Testament will follow the Septuagint's.

Also, any memory verses from the Horologion will be taken from Metropolitan Isaiah’s liturgical translations as found on http://www.denver.goarch.org/.

Verses in Greek will be from the Patriarchal Text or the Apostoliki Diakonia Bible for biblical texts, and from Metropolitan Isaiah’s liturgical prayers in Greek.

*Metropolitan Isaiah is a bishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
