I recently watched a doctor on YouTube talking about a fascinating case study involving a man, multiple doctors, months of time, and three countries, all stemming from the man not chewing his food and swallowing a fish bone.

So what does this have to do with memorizing the Scriptures? The analogy of "eating" the Word of God is found multiple times in the Bible. But how should we "eat" the Bible? Too many people just wolf down verses on a Sunday morning, then promptly forget them, or worse, misremember them, causing harm to themselves and others. (Isa 28:13)
When we make the time to carefully memorize passages, we can later ruminate (meditate/chew) on these passages as we walk, as we work on things that don't require our full attention, and as we rest. It is during these times we have the amazing privilege to commune with the heart and the mind of our loving LORD. It is in these times that this holy food truly causes spiritual transformation, spiritual health, and ultimately fruitfulness.
