hey, Susan! you haven’t talked in a while!
Happy New Year, Charlotte! Happy New Year, everyone!
Happy New Year, everyone. May you stay well and productive !
thanks, Carlotte! I will try to keep that in consideration.
Bible Memorizer & hikergal, another thing I wanted to remind you of is that BM/ST is set up for review w points every 8 hrs (atltho' our set rev page uses daily, 1 day, etc) so when I AM LEARNING A NEW VERSE, I TRY TO PRACTICE IT TWICE EA DAY (EVERY 8 HRS) for a few days in a row, same for any passages I am having a hard time with! Once I master a larger passage, I RESET indiv vs and pairs (as if never mastered) but they are still listed on my verses page in their proper collection so they can be used to practice first before reviewing for mastery the larger passage. My big thing is "practice, practice, practice" which I sometimes also do in "long hand" w paper and pencil as I firmly believe that the forming of the words with our hand engraves it better in our minds! (Can you tell I use to be a teacher!?)
Hi, hikergal, sometimes some learn best by one method like by hearing or by seeing, some by what is called "rote memory" or repetitions, some in combination. I speak the verses out loud as I type them. I also do repetitions by practicing typing smaller sections before I try to review them for mastery in a larger section.
Thanks for the question, hikergal! I sometimes have the same problem, as well. What helps me is that I will read from it strait out of the Bible. I will read the passage that I want to memorize over and over until the time comes that I will be able to repeat it in my head without looking at the passage itself. I usually do it by paragraphs and they at the end connect all the paragraphs all together at the end. It is a very convenient way to memorize and then I am more able to type them out on Bible Memory. I have only done two years of Bible memorization really so I am not all that trained. I am still learning new techniques just like you. There is so much to learn every day!
I have memorized several chapters of the Bible and love this app, but the more I memorize, the harder I find it to perfectly recall the chapters I’ve memorized in the past. I do review regularly (bi-weekly), but...suggestions for keeping the chapters I’ve memorized perfect for recall?
Also I have memorized James so I got a few more verses for the group!
Wow! Thanks for the tip. Good news is that I have actually been doing the first letter only for two years. Thankfully they have made that section. I found out the “first letter only” a while back. I usually use my phone on the app and it auto set it to that mode. (: Thanks for the tip anyway!
I really appreciated the tip, Charlotte P. It really helped. I was needing a new technique for memorizing. Your tip has helped me memorize more and faster. Thanks a lot!
Hello, Anna, hope you and your family are staying well and are being encouraged by the Scriptures in these challenging days! Our LORD is ever gracious and faithful!
awesome! thanks for the tip. really helped!
Great goal! I am always thrilled to see young people learning Scripture passages! When I starting memorizing passages as a young wife, we had typewriters but no computers etc. I learned passages by writing them out long-hand, saying them out loud sometimes into a tape recorder and then checking for accuracy. Even though I now I type the Scriptures here, I still use pencil and paper to review ones that I am having trouble with as I believe that the Lord made our minds such that forming the words with our hands forms it more indelible in our brains! At 75 years old, I am still amazed at what God enables me to retain! So continue to learn and review often! Blessings as you do!
hi, Charlotte! I’m a teenager and I am trying to memorizing 530 verses this year. got any tips? appreciate it!
hello from Ireland. I just started a group called Friendship with God. You are welcome to take a look and join.
Doesn't take long to fall way behind....
Your idea for intersections is great!
Ahhh, Charlotte--your role in life right now is so difficult. I have two friends who act as caretakers for individuals with dementia, and it is very, very challenging and isolating. I hope you have people that can come and do some respite care and give you a break.
SUSAN, this is a trick that has helped me with passage "intersections" - sometimes on my own verse page I impute under Uncateg. verses an adapted set of passages to practice like 2: 22-27 and then 2:27-35 instead of 28-35. That way I practice the connecting verses on each side of the passage intersection. Then after a few times of typing these before typing the review of the larger passage I can then easily delete them from my Uncat. list by clicking on the x to the far right of the verse ref in the list.
PROBABLY BOTH . . .I think he wants to be active in conversation, which as you can tell, I enjoy as well as I get lonely for adult conversation as I am a caregiver for my husband who has Parkinson's and dementia. I've had to stop going to most of my church and quilting activities. I have no children and his two adult daughters do not live close and have issues of their own. You might go to his group site and leave a message as I did since before he had just made a blanket message to many of the top groups.
GodIsWithYou: Are you "active" in conversation or in verse memory or both?
The "type only the first letter of each word" feature helps me awful lot with review actually. I can review a verse five times in the same amount of time it would take me to review it once, otherwise. Putting in another plug!!
Yeah, I do mostly okay with remembering 1 John and James but the others still need lots of review, especially the chapter-length ones. I'm especially wobbly on the "intersection points" where two of the shorter passages that I've memorized meet.
please can u guys join my group named Active members ONLY?? thanks for your consideration...
You are invited to the "Active members ONLY" Bible memorization group: https://scripturetyper.com/group/app/1e6cda52ff/
WOW, SUSAN!! SO pleased for you to accomplish all these! You & DiAnne amaze me with all the review you do. But after few more months of review they will go faster, at least my passages of John seem to have done so. I am working through the review of it and the "J" letters in less than a month and have added in 1 Pet 1 & 2 but the rest of the "P" letters will have to be looped in with doubling up as TWO months inbetw review is too long for me.
Yay! 😄So happy!! 🤗🎉I got 'em all! At least, until 16 hours from now when the next review comes up! 😏
WELCOME, Terrie ! Thanks for joining us! May you have added joy as you work on these passages!
come and join my group called everyone loves the bible!
I will try to have the "T" Group up & running in a day or two & will send you an invite. My verse count won't increase very fast until i progress more in the P Letters. But it will give us another option as will the C+ Letters as soon as I get them done. You will notice the list of book chapters are a little different since ST is set up numerically & alphabetically so 1 Thess 1-5 then 1 Timothy 1-6 are listed before 2 Thess & 2 Timothy but that will probably be the way I work on them anyway.
Yes, since i am a night owl, I don't like to do reviews in the mornings so when i can find time in the mornings i work on organizing new collections. I like to still memorize in order like all chapters of 1 Pet before 2nd Pet but still want to learn more so I already did Philemon, then started on Philippians & also Colossians since it is a bridge to the "T" letters & will be a head start for the "C+" letters. I've learned Philipp 1 &2 & Col 1 so far. I will start soon on imputing the verses for the Collections of 1 & 2 Cor., Ephs & Galatians & possibly Romans. Susan & I talked about how long the Cor. letters are so I will probably wait to learn them last.
got to love those typo's, the question was: where you thinking?
Charlotte, go for it girl!!! I would love to work on them at the same time and the "P" letters. Question, where you thing of the other letters as well? I really like the methodology that you have used in constructing these groups. It makes learning the entire chapters more fun and for me I am able to retain it more, than doing only single verses.
Actually, I was wrong. You get 7pts per verse if the verse is 100% accurate. At least, that's the case for the "first letter" version and I assume it is the same for the other accuracy version as well.
I have some T's already memorized so I would probably work on both at the same time.
Yes, you should try the "first letter" feature. I think you will love it!! It has enabled me to keep up with so many more verses! (Although I am still way behind on review....) The pts for mastery is still 6 pts/vs.
Susan & DiAnne, are either of you more interested in working on the "T" letters of Paul before finishing the "P"s? I am almost ready to launch it but don't feel pressured or obligated, just another option.
Ok, I have never tried the "type only first letter" but do use the " "ignore p". Your vs pt value then may be the same (6 pt/vs) ea time after mastery. I always wanted to ask someone what the pts for mastery by accuracy was. I had assumed when 0wpm were given that they did it by accuracy. My mind usually goes faster than my fingers can type even when speak it outloud as I usually do. I will have to give it a try.
I also do as you do and backup sometimes midverse.
I use the "type first letter of each word" option so that speeds things up a lot for me. Also, I chose the "ignore punctuation" feature.
I know ...that is the reason I use the mastery by typing speed since I am not a good typist (altho' my skills have greatly increased by the practice here) and I KNOW the Scripture very well but make typing errors as with it you can backup and even start over by hitting the review button again mid verse! I think the mastery points are lower but for me that doesn't matter as I am only in competition with MYSELF and SO THANKFUL to have this opportunity and capability to learn in this manner at my age!
Yes, I'm so excited to almost be done with these--trying to make that last push in Jude and 2 John to get the bigger passages! It's those little mistakes!! Grrr....
hello everyone I am inviting everyone in this group who is active to my group I just made named Active members ONLY. I am hoping to make a very active group. I am a very active person and I go on multiple times a day. I wan to have this active group to be able to share stuff and get answers quickly and that when questions are asked they get answered too. we can memorize together in a healthy environment of people from all around the globe!! I would gladly promote anyone who has verses to add or just them for you if you tell me which ones. thankyou for your consideration for joining my group!! may the Lord bless you all!!
Oh, WOW, Susan, great job!
Ok, knew you were probably close to finishing. I've be waiting to see what final verse count is since I reset all my indiv verses & most pairs & smaller grouped sections. I have a hard time getting all the review in even with just the larger sections!!
Not yet :-) there are still a few of the longer verses to learn. Blessings sweet sister!
Yeah, DiAnne, it looks like maybe you've completed everything topping out at 902 verses!! Congrats!!
Hi, Bethany, glad you joined us in this wonderful adventure in God's word thru His beloved disciples (some belated or secretly).
I know I set up my Collections differently than some but learning a few indiv. verses then practicing them grouped together as soon as I can while learning more indiv. verses, then practicing several smaller groups together has helped me understand the flow and concept of the passage and to learn the whole faster. Because ST is set up in alphabetical and numerical order, I skip over say 1-10 until I have learned 1-4 and 5-10. Then I go back to it & master it after having practiced the smaller groups several times. But you do as much or as little as you desire. No contest here just encouragement to joyfully learn the Word!
please join my group called James and John and Jude
WELCOME, Aimswell, and well-said! Thanks for the invite. 1 & 2 Peter follow James which was the last letter of this group for me to finish. I will check them out.
"II Peter, Grow in Grace" was just added to "Whosoever Will"
A New collection called "II Peter, Grow in Grace" was just added to "Whosoever Will". The verses are grouped mainly in twos. Some key passages is this collection are:
2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
2 Peter 3:9-11 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
May God bless you richly as you cherish His word in your heart. :-)
Thanks, Susan. So glad to have you working on these with us and in other groups as well! They have been a blessing to learn but they also have brought me under conviction more than once! So thankful the LORD is gracious and patient!!
That's awesome, Charlotte! Congratulations!
Thanks! It's been such a joy to have you join me in this journey!! I watch your progress in amazement knowing you have also done all of Revelation! I will be thrilled to have you join me in learning first 1 & 2 Peter, then Philemon & Philippians. But I think I will then group together The "T" Letters and The "C" Letters as separate groups so that the group prep is not so long and I can get into the memorization faster! Sound like a plan? . . . . IF THE LORD TARRIES and allows! "Amen. Come, LORD JESUS! is our prayer"
"I rejoice greatly when I heard" sound familiar :-) Wow Charlotte that's great! So when your ready please let me know when I can start the "P" letters. I also have had the "P" letters on my heart. I've masters a few verses here and there in them but I have not purposes to learn them all. The way that the verses have been grouped together in these collections has helped to make them part of my very being. Many blessings to you and yours.
Yea! Rejoice with me ... I've now mastered all my grouped verses and chapters in all the Collections of The "J" Letters !! I will continue in monthly review BUT now on to my next project: The "P" Letters of Peter & Paul !
Welcome to all ! I'm sorry that I did not finish dividing up all the verses in James 3 - 5 before I sent out the invitations as I was still working thru James 2 myself! I added some grouped sections today.
