got it, thanks for clarifying. was wondering what was going on there - helpful to know. if anyone else reads this and is wondering - you can edit the cards within your own collection, as I did to match my church’s standards!
Hi Anonymous. The description of this group shows that the 10 commandments are in the NKJV. The reason for this is that I had many friends and acquaintances that used the NKJV at the time and had already memorized the 10 Commandments in that version. So it made sense to keep that version in learning the catechism. Afterall the goal is to learn the catechism. Rememorizing in another version is tough and usually results in never getting it right again (personal experience). I kept the Lord's Prayer in this version as the KJV since almost everyone knows it in that version. If you are wanting a pure KJV-based catechism don't use this group. There are others that are done that way.
hello everybody, I’ve been very grateful for this resource and it’s help in memorizing the catechism. I do have a question though, why do some of the questions have quasi updated language? particularly in the 10 commandments? I’ve been using other resources to study and have noticed that the language in this app does not match with the resources published by the PCA, OPC, or the EPC’s updated version. so what’s this from? I’ve manually edited my cards to match what’s used by the PCA
Hello - thank you so much for creating this! I am looking to graduate from RTS soon, and one of the requirements has been to memorize the shorter catechism. This has been super helpful for me, but aside from the academic requirement, it has also been a blessing to my own life and ministry. So far, I’m up through Q81, just finished the 10 commandments.
I'm curious. How is everyone coming along with their catechism work? I hope you are staying with it. I am on my third year of doing the catechism, and I still miss some. But I find myself quoting some of the answers frequently in conversation and online. It is really a powerful tool for saturating your mind with the things of God. Scripture is best, but catechism is second.
I just figured it out! I’m good now! so happy!
Randal. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I have found easily your subset collection of Q41-60. when I pull it up it is all there, but after I select it , whether I “keep the version” or “choose a different version” what I find in “My Verses” fir 41-60 are empty, no text. Is there something I am missing? I really value what you’ve done. I just am almost to Q40, so I want to get this worked out. thank you.
Lisa - I added a sub section of just Q41 - 60. So check it. My group is the Modified Group. I don't have access to the other Catechism page, so I set this one up to add the missing questions. So only the Westminster Shorter Catechism Modified group is in my control.
Randall, thank you so much for your patience with me. For sone reason by questions 41-60 are blank…the numbers are there, but no text. can you help me out? Thiscis in your WSC Modified and in the Westminster Shorter Catechism group.
Welcome everyone. I started memorizing the shorter catechism about 2 years ago. Did my first full memorization in about 8 months. But it has a very short shelf life. So I set up each question to be reviewed every 3 weeks but staggered so that I do a group each day. But even with that for almost a year and half, there are still questions that I have trouble remembering. So please take that into account. The Catechism will require some consistent and long-term maintenace. But it is probably the most worthwhile of my memory projects.
