Together in Giving & Serving
Welcome Aubrey Johnston, Associate Minister To Students

Welcome Aubrey Johnston! Aubrey grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and made her way to Birmingham, Alabama, to attend Samford University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Family Education with a minor in Sociology. She went on to attend Beeson Divinity School where she completed her Master of Divinity in December 2020. Aubrey has been serving as the College Ministry Associate at Mountain Brook Community Church.

Aubrey is very passionate about discipling young woman and focuses her ministry around deep and meaningful relationships. She is an extremely gifted teacher and longs for every student here at Dawson to experience the riches of God’s Word. In this role, Aubrey will work alongside Bryan to provide supervision and coordination to all of Student Ministry, including working closely with parents, Life Groups teachers, and volunteers to disciple students towards a life-long faith in Jesus Christ.

We are so excited to see what God does through Aubrey as she helps lead and disciple our students. Please join us in praying for her as she transitions into this new role in our Student Ministry.

Together in Missions & Ministry
Looking For A Service Opportunity?

Do you like to shop? Kids Connection needs additional volunteers to assist clients in shopping for their children. Volunteers work 1 or 2 days a month on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (flexible time). Volunteers help clients pick out clothing, shoes, toys, books, and other items. This is also a great opportunity for summer service for teens aged 16 years and older. Younger kids (10 and above) can serve if their parent is also volunteering on the same day. If you are interested, please contact Joy Phillips at kidsconnectionAL@gmail.com or text her at 205-612-6167.

Mindful Moments Together Over Tea

Sunday, July 25, 4:00 p.m., Fellowship Hall

For hundreds of years and for many cultures, teatime has been a time for mindful moments alone and for fellowshipping in community. Dawson Women’s Ministry invites you to an elegant teatime experience that will feed your soul. Lorna Reeves, editor of TeaTime magazine, will host in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, July 25 at 4:00 p.m. We will gather to enjoy dainty food, hot tea, and sweet fellowship. Tea, whether sipped in solitude or with several sisters in Christ, is one of God’s good gifts that He can use to accomplish His purposes in us and through us as we commit ourselves to honor Him. Recipe: Sweet Corn Salad

Fresh sweet corn season is worth waiting for! Whether it is eaten raw, steamed, boiled, pan sauteed, creamed, or grilled, summer is the time to enjoy fresh sweet corn! Combined with other seasonal vegetables, this salad is loaded with flavor and nutrient density. You can make it with a traditionally southern taste or kick it up to southwestern!

Summer Fresh Corn Salad

Makes 6 servings

Ingredients:

Salad:

5 ears of sweet corn, cut off the cob (may be grilled)

2 1/2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved or quartered

1 cup small diced red onion

1 large avocado, diced (optional for southwestern flavor)

Dressing:

3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (lime juice about 1-2 limes for southwestern flavor)

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1/4 to 1/2 cup chiffonade fresh spinach or basil leaves (fresh cilantro for southwestern flavor)

Red pepper flakes to taste for southwestern flavor

Instructions:

1. To cut the shucked corn off the cob, first invert a small bowl inside a larger bowl. Cut the stem of the cob off for a flat surface. Place cut side down holding the tip and slice downward close to the cob with a sharp chef knife rotating to get all the kernels off.

2. To chiffonade the basil, stack several basil leaves together and then roll tightly. With a chef knife make perpendicular slices across the roll for thin strips.

3. Whisk the dressing ingredients together. Add the other vegetables to the bowl and toss with the dressing. If using avocado, add just before serving.  Serve cold or at room temperature.
