One of the very nice families we have for neighbors are Catholic.  They think they're saved, and thus, are very hard to witness to; I know from experience.  They're very friendly; I think they know we're Christian, but they've never challenged us.  I've given them a few tracts and said stuff that might hint my strong faith, but I've never actually gotten into the deep evangelism routine.  Please pray that God would show them that they are deceived by the doctrinal heresies and put them on the true road of the true Christ alone.

Thank you.

After learning a bit more about Catholicism, I've realized it's very possible they could be saved and just wrong about a few things. Some Catholics hold to heresy, but others just misinterpret the fact that even Christians believe--that you can't get to Heaven without works (even though you don't get there because of them). So while I'm still concerned for my neighbors, I'm not presuming that they're not converted. But it's still hard being unsure, and knowing there's a good chance they're heretics.

I know from experience, they are difficult to witness to! They think they're already saved!

Just keep at it...things take perseverance - especially evangelizing! Are there any new updates to give? Had any more good opportunities to witness to them? Praying for you.

First question (don't think me silly when I ask this...) do Catholics read their Bible? Meaning, do your neighbors read their Bible? If so, you could ask them if they are interested in just reading the Word together with you. A lot of people in my Church have taken this approach, and have seen SO much fruit come of it. They just asked the person that they are trying to reach if they would read the Word, (without any extra comments about what they think the text says). Normally, the unbeliever would have lots of questions while reading, and ask them. (Note: This is just a suggestion. And, our Church does other evangelism things as well...not just this thing.) "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" < Great verse!

Thank you so much for the advice, His Servant... I don't know if they read their Bible. I'm sure you know that for many years, reading the Bible was illegal for Catholics; that's why it was read in Latin in church. (Boring... snoring.) Translating it into English was a capital crime. Do they read the Bible now? Well, thankfully you can't be burned at the stake for doing so, but I doubt they pay much attention to it, because if they did, they'd know they were wrong. Maybe they just read the Apocrypha. Thanks again; we don't know them well enough for me to ask to read it with them. It would be awkward. But I'll have to try bringing up the Bible sometime;

Yes, I did know about that in their history, but didn't know now if they read their Bible. I know - if they did read their Bible....they could start seeing/reading the truth that everything they believe isn't right! I don't know how anyone could read their Bible and believe that one is saved by works...(they believe that, right?)

If I'm correct, what they believe is that you're perfect when you're born (or maybe once you're christened), and going to Heaven. Once you sin, you're going to purgatory. Then you have to make up your sin with good works. So how much time you spend in purgatory depends on how good you are (unless someone buys you out of it or whatever).

Oh, my, are they messed up... a LOT! But then again, we all were before we were saved - praise God for sending His Son to die for us!

Right. But the dangerous thing is they think that they are saved. But then again, I used to have the same problem; I was a false convert for a long time. Faith but no works... or maybe I should say bad works!

The Lord's grace is so amazing! I thought for several years that I was believer as well, from 2008-2010. The year 2010, I came to see that I had never been converted. I struggled a lot that year, and came to know the Lord early 2011. Praise the Lord!

Yeah, well, for me it was a lot longer. I'm 14 now; I think I prayed a prayer when I was around 5. I don't know when I was truly converted, it may have been at around 11.

Are there any new updates? Have you had any more good opportunities to witness to your neighbors? I have been praying for you, and will continue to pray!

Don't give up in prayer! I know a man whose Grandmother prayed for upwards of 16 years for her grandson before he was finally saved. No he works with hundreds of kids spreading the gospel. The Lord will bless your diligence. Ask Him to open up opportunities for you to share Him with them, and ask for seeing eyes to see those opportunities when they pop up. You are going a great thing here, so don't give up!!!

It's so wonderful that you care for your neighbors. Just keep trying to share Jesus and the good news of salvation.

I have neighbors who are also Catholic, and my Grandma used to work in a Catholic retirement home, so I know it can be hard to witness to them because, like you said, they think they're "good to go." I will definitely be praying!
