Hello Marilyn - been away for a little more than a week, nice to come back to some encouraging news on Fred - Praise God!
My husband got out of both the hospital and rehab early because he was receiving occupational, physical and speech therapies during rehab. Those therapies helped him make rapid progress, but he is still a bit weak on his right side. Fortunately the effect is not profound. He can walk with a cane and walker, and by himself for short stretches. He does still need additional therapeutic support which he will arrange in the coming week as he needs to gain more strength. And stairs are one of his chief obstacles. There are 3 flights of stairs at our church! During our illness, our son was sick for 3 days, and I was ill for a little over 4 days. It was a cold or three day flu bug. It may have come on as our immune systems were weakened by the stress of my husband's recent stroke.
I have not visited him since last Sunday, a week. My son and I were exposed to some kind of cold-like illness the Thursday before that. Our son began feeling sick on Sunday with a 3-day flu, and I became sick by Wednesday. I have not had nausea or vomiting, or even a temperature, just a severe headache due to sinus congestion, a lot of sneezing, and a drippy nose. So, my husband and I do FaceTime so we can visit each other and see one another face to face. I will visit him in person once these cold symptoms pass; he is okay with that. But he is receiving visits from friends and family, and they bring him things that he needs from home.
The doctor felt that the MRI showed that he might have had multiple mild strokes earlier in the month as well. But Fred is doing better now that he is in rehab since Tuesday. He sounded much better by Thursday. He was very weak and tired before that, but seemed to be getting strength back in his voice. He usually does his therapies in the morning: first he tackles occupational, then speech, and finishes with physical therapy. By noon he is exhausted. He says he will be there 2 more weeks. By the way, this is the only hospital rehab in the area that has a doctor, physical therapist, occupational therapist, and speech therapist in house.
John 10:10 - a favorite of Joby Martin, founder of The Church of eleven22
Wonderful verse! That particular one is one of my favorites. We are holding onto Christ whether we live or die. He does not make mistakes. Only the devil tempts, and comes to steal, kill and destroy.
Praying for and Fred, Marilyn.
"And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you."
~1 Peter 5:10
Thank you, Brian. So far, I have not crumbled under the weight of this new situation. Trusting in God and His word gives immense relief. Fred is frustrated that he no longer has complete control of his right hand but knows that he could get that ability back with usage, and continuing to lean on God. I am trying to keep some normalcy to his life. I bring him food from home, share daily news, and we watch our favorite YT shows together (Itchy Boots, besides a variety of spiritual content like Amazing Facts TV). I need to read to him also since he is having trouble reading because he cannot focus on printed material.
Marilyn, sorry to hear of your husbands stroke. Praying for Fred, you and your family that The Spirit of God comforts and gives you all of the strength to get through this!
My husband, Fred, has recently had more than one light stroke on the left side of his brain. We just admitted him to the hospital where he will remain for a few days. Then he will go directly to a rehab after that. I stayed overnight Friday night in the hospital with him. He is favoring his right side somewhat. He can still walk (praise God), but with assistance. No facial droop or slurred speech, but those brain bleeds have slowed him down significantly both physically and neurologically. He has some loss of right hand grip and control, and he walks with a slight limp. So he won't be coming home for a while. Please pray for Fred.
Thanks Brian. I have a prayer request.
Welcome Marilyn and thank you for the comment on the artwork and especially for your share on Psalm 27:5-7 :)
Revelation 21:22 - And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
God is our refuge, our Rock, our tabernacle, and He will be present with us as we offer our sacrifices of praise unto Him. He will have mercy upon us and answer us; we have only to ask.
I reviewed Psalm 27:5-7 today - For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth in him." - Ephesians 1:7-10
Thank you CAM! Some colored pencil artwork :)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved."
-Ephesians 1:3-6
