If a warrior forgets how to use his sword in battle, he’s not going to fare so well. However, if he has spent time training to be knowledgeable and skilled in using the sword, he will be a threat and will be able to effectively attack and defend much more effectively. Likewise, when we are armed with the word of God—which is sharper than any two-edged sword—and have trained ourselves to know it (i.e. practice memorizing), we will do much better in the spiritual warfare we’re in as we can counter satan’s attacks with Scripture we memorized just like what Jesus did.
