Solutions to Common Problems

Problem: Menu options are missing or blank for the Verse Options or Top Right menus.
Details: We've had several users of iOS 8 devices report that they can't edit verses or access other features because the menus are missing, or only show the Share option.
Solution: Update your device to the latest version of iOS. Open the System Settings app and select General->Software Update to update your device.

Problem: My sequential verses get out of order when reviewing.
Details: For those who memorize a lot of full chapters or extended passages, we now recommend reviewing from the My Verses screen using the new Sort by Due Date option.
Solution For full chapters and extended passages, the best way to set up your verses is to create a collection for each extended passage (or chapter) that you are memorizing. It works best if you import each verse individually. The system will do this for you as follows:
  1. Open the Collection you created for your passage.
  2. Click "Add Verse"
  3. Enter the entire verse range of the passage, i.e. John 1:1-1000 (just use a large number for the ending verse if you aren't sure how many verses are in a chapter)
  4. Choose "Import Verse Text"
  5. When asked if you'd like to split the passage into individual verses, choose "YES"
Importing the verses individually will do several things for you:
  1. You'll be able to memorize verses individually, instead of having to continually work on the entire passage.
  2. The verses that you've mastered in the typing system can be combined and reviewed together as a single passage. The system will do this automatically for the verses that you've mastered. (You have to master at least the 1st two verses before this will be available).
  3. You can record audio for each verse individually, and then use the audio features to play back the entire passage sequentially. You'll also have several options, like playing each verse multiple times before moving to the next verse. I like to try to speak along with the recording, and it helps get you fluent in reciting a verse out loud.
I hope you find this helpful when memorizing full chapters and extended passages.

Problem: My Verses Current is incorrect in the public rankings.
Details: We are continually improving the ranking system so that it better prevents cheating while still allowing great flexibilty in review options to our users. If your public and private verses current totals do not match, our filter has identified certain verses in your account that have been manually adjusted and not yet reviewed and it is not counting those toward the public total. We may also add other filters as we continue to improve the system and keep it fun for everyone.
Solution: Review any verses that you've manually adjusted the review date on. For example, if you know a verse really well, so you manually set it out to review Annually. You'll need to review that verse again before it will count toward your public verse total.

Problem: Phone/iPad is out of sync with BibleMemory.com or other devices.
Details: Problems with Internet Connectivity may sometimes cause your device to get out of sync with BibleMemory.com and your other devices.
Solution 1: When changing devices, always go to Settings-> Sync w/ST.com on the device you're moving to.
Solution 2: If one of your mobile devices isn't syncing its data to BibleMemory.com, go to Settings-> Preferences-> Force Full Resync on that device.

Problem: App crashes
Details: We've had some reports of the app crashing at various times after installing an app update. This usually happens when users skip several updates, or when something interrupts the update script, like a loss of internet connectivity, or the app closing.
Solution 1: Make sure you have the most recent version of The Bible Memory App from the App Store.
Solution 2: Delete and re-install the app. After logging back in, make sure your verses have synced up. If they haven't, you'll need to try deleting and re-installing again. In the event that your verses do sync, but the app still prompts you to update to "Pro", try hard closing and re-opening the app. To hard close it, just double tap the home button and then swipe the app upward. Please let me know if I can assist in any way.

Memorizing Your Verses

  • The Bible Memory App uses a three-step memorization process.
    • First, you type a verse in "Type It" mode.
      • In the app this means you will type the first letter of each word.
      • Each word is visible but in a light gray font
      • As you type each first letter, the words color will change to black if you got it right, and red if you missed it. This carries over to each of the modes listed below as well.
      • If you a physical keyboard, such as a blue-tooth keyboard, might want to try the "Type Everything" mode which is found under your preferences. This mode allows you to type each letter in a word instead of just the first letter.
    • Then you memorize a verse by typing it with every other word missing in the "Memorize It" mode.
    • Finally, you master a verse in the "Master It" mode by typing the entire verse without any assistance.
    • You can skip any step or repeat any step as many times as you would like. A verse is not checked off as fully memorized until it has been mastered.
    • Once a verse is mastered, it will be entered into your review system.
  • Select the verse you would like to memorize, either in a category or under your My Verses list.
  • The memorization screen will appear in the "Type It" mode. To change typing modes to either "Memorize It" or "Master It", select the "Typing Mode" button in the top navigation bar, which will take you to the Memorization Mode screen.
  • From the Memorization Mode screen, you can also control the following features:

Review System

Using the Automatic Review System

  • Once you have mastered a verse, it will automatically be entered into the review system.
    • The Bible Memory App will remind you to review a newly mastered verse the following day.
    • If you get it right the first time, the review frequency will decrease, but if you get it wrong, it will stay at the same frequency it was previously
    • This system is designed to encourage more frequent review right after memorizing a verse, and gradually less frequent review the more you have reviewed a verse. This also helps in memorizing larger quantities of Scripture, keeping Scripture memory sustainable long-term.
    • The review time selections are:
      • Daily
      • Every Other Day
      • Weekly
      • Weekly
      • Every Two Weeks
      • Monthly
      • Every Two Months
      • Quarterly
      • Semi-Annually
      • Annually
      • and Do Not Review
    • You can choose to increase the review frequency if you wish, for example from Monthly to Weekly, but you can only decrease the frequency, from Weekly to Monthly, if it has moved you to that frequency automatically before.
    • Though it is discouraged, you can change a verse to any review frequency at any time if you have a Bible Memory Pro account
  • Login to The Bible Memory App.
  • Select the "Review" button.
  • To the right of each verse, it will show how long until it is due for review in green.
  • If it is past due, it will have a negative number in red text.
  • You can select the "Start the Review" button at the top of the page, and it will guide you through reviewing all of your verses, OR you can simply select the verse you would like to review.
